So I'm playing through this game and enjoying it for the most part (the combat is agonizingly slow for sure), until I encounter a boss-like monster with 3 arms over a pit of lava.

Ok, I'm thinking, I'll focus down the arms one at a time. Makes sense. I throw up barrier on everyone and start chipping away, hitting for 11-15 at a time (with 3-bar attacks). Meanwhile I'm getting nuked by the 3 arms and the main thing, which randomly heals the arms.

I finally destroy an arm, no small feat when it randomly heals itself for 15-28 fairly often.

As I am about to destroy the second arm, the first one regenerates. FFS I say to myself. I continue on, destroying the second arm and the first one for a second time. As I am chipping away at the 3rd, I let barrier fall off. This is it, the fight is almost over! Then it regenerates the first arm again. FFS!!!!!!!! Then, AFTER ONE BAR FILLS UP, IT REGENERATES THE OTHER ARM AGAIN. I give up, ALT-F4. Make angry post here.

Did I miss something? I tried using the water fate card, but it drained a bunch of core power and didn't do any more damage than my regular attacks.
If I recall correctly there are a few bosses like this in the game that have multiple parts that you need to pretty much take out simultaneously. The best way is to just use the strongest fate card combinations you have that strike all targets, which ensures that you're doing roughly equal damage across all parts of the boss. Otherwise you'll need to monitor the HP of each part, chipping away at them all simultaneously, until they're all low enough that you can knock them all out at once in a single round of attacks.
I think for that boss the big water summon was a quick way to win the fight. Use summon + water on level 3 attack, this should kill it quick enough to stop it from regenerating.
You should take Grubb to your party and equip him with engine, which gives more core. And now, use him as main spell caster. And as TERMIT said, use summon+water on level 3 attack.

Thanks for the quick replies. I've been really enjoying the story but struggling with the clunky combat. I'll try the summon thing out after I finish my Molten Core raid.

I have Led in my party as a "mechanically-inclined" member, is she a viable caster as well as Grub?
Both are good casters, Grubb's magic is a little bit stronger, but Led has somewhat better survivability. All in all, it does not matter much whom you will pick for this fight.

(Also, combat in general will become much quicker once you get the All card... unfortunately this will be some time later in the game. But Led/Grubb with magic enhancing artifacts, lightning magic and All card will end most fights on the first attack in mid/end game)

first you need to buy some some earplugs from the shopkeeper on shell 4. It will protect you vs the sonic attack.

Second you need to kill all the arms within 2-3 turns of each other. all arms have 100 hp. So you need to get them all to around 90 dmg and finish them off all at the same time.

Hope this helps :D I am playing the game also right now and it took a while to figure it out.
