Did I go wrong anywhere in my installation or is there just no town/area music at all? The only place I'm getting them is world-map and battles. If this is intended, that's really a poor lazy job of the developers. First time playing this for me, I like it so far except for the no music part..

Every "J-rpg" needs good music to set the mood. Imagine a game like FF7 without any of the memorable music, which it had a unique one for every town and area..

Its mostly ambient noise that plays in those areas. I don't really think its them being lazy. I think it was a deliberate design decision. I think it sets the atmosphere pretty well myself. This isn't some colorful fantasy world. Having ambient sounds instead of music conveys the setting better than music would.

Edit: Well, there are some places that might have been better served with music now that I think about it. Im still sticking with my opinion though.

One minor detail: this isn't really a JRPG. It was developed by a US studio and originally published by a German publisher. It was certainly influenced by JRPGs in it's visual style, but it technically isn't one at all.

Yes I know, this is why I added the silly out of context quotation marks.

I just started playing yesterday.

While this isn't a JRPG, it is trying to take/borrow elements from it, I could tell that from the very first few moments of playing it, which makes sense when you realize when it came out, at a peak time for JRPGs, and Final Fantasy VIII release was approaching, and I did find myself several times yesterday feeling there should be some music at times where there wasn't any.

I think no music in some games is fine but other games kinda need it. This is one that I feel could have benefited atmospherically if it had more music in it, the near silence at times, just feels out of place and awkward.
