Tacnil: make a text file within the septerra core folder.
add the lines

taskkill /F /IM Explorer.exe
septerra.EXE
Start explorer.exe

then save it as septerra.bat if it is still a text file change the hide extension for know type under folder options and erase .txt and delete quicktime.qts then double click on septerra.bat to get the game to run and the graphic problem should be fixed :)
Just tried this fix... doesn't work. :(

Yes, I've also tried this fix on it's own and with removing Quicktime.qts, or replacing it with the .qts file from Quicktime 7, but I either get the intro movies and the usual dual purple screen effect, or the game crashes outright before even getting to the movies (which is new).

Quick time 4.0 does the trick on win 8.1

uninstall other quick time though,

crimson_twilight: Well this is embarrassing, but I didn't even realize there were in game videos. Got it working properly on my windows 7 machine though. So to answer your question, removing the quicktime files from the folder fixes the screen issues but does not allow the movies to load.

On a side note, running septerra in windows xp sp2 compatibility mode even with the quicktime files removed will restore the videos AND the screen issues. Having the latest quicktime or quicktime alternate installed and playing around with video acceleration makes no diiference :(
This worked for me on Windows 10, though as mentioned the movies don't play. There's only 9 story movies (the 9th being split into a and b) and honestly none of them seem very critical for conveying information. The ddraw.dll fix definitely makes things a terrible stuttery mess AND the movies played in a tiny window on my screen anyway, so I'm going to go with smooth gameplay and no movies.
