I am curious if anyone else is having issues here to be honest. I installed Septerra Core onto my computer and it has a 64 bit system. So far, none of the compatibility modes resolve the issue with low framerate and testing with the various fixes (Installing an older Quicktime while deleting the current one in the septerra core, putting in the folder version of the two quicktime files, ect) have not worked. Has anyone found a solution that actually does work with low framerates?

To be honest... I don't think it's a Windows 10 issue here. Go to your instalation folder and open septerra.ini file. Now go to the [Options] section and change
CPUIdle = 1
to
CPUIdle = 0
I'm running this game on Windows 7 64 and I got low framerate whenever I move mouse cursor. This hepled me though, so maybe it will work for you?

Hello,

I found a solution for the game to run on Windows 10. Please make this post sticky.

After installing the game, you need to remove all .avi files from the installation dir as well as "ddraw.dll" and "QuickTime.qts".

Download the following file. It contains the movies and the QT fix: mega.nz/#!tB80ULaS!W0DyyPzWa3lS7in_ko7L3lgckNcY0MMLf-VXXxRIM-I

Replace the .DB files in the installation dir with the ones from my archive.

Place the files inside the archive "QT4.zip" into your C:\Windows\SysWOW64

You will find "QT4.zip" in my uploaded archive.

Conclusion: Videos work and there is no stuttering. It's like back in '99 when the game was released.

Hey bud. All I did was delete quicktime.qts, and the ddraw.dll file and the game so far has been good. I will continue my playthrough for a bit and if I run into any issues, I will send another reply, but so far I have been able to progress without any issue.

(EDIT)

I have went through the game with out any issues. It is a great game. Enjoy!

Thanks for this. I`m running the game on Windows 10 and when I booted it up the frame rate was murderous. Deleted both files and it is running smooth now.
@silvery-corgan

Thank you so much. You're fix worked perfectly!! Deleting quicktime allows the game to run, but also prevents the cutscenes from working properly. Your fix made the game exactly as I remember it.

Deleting that quicktime fixed my problem too, thank so much!
How I fixed everything was by using dgvoodoo2.

You can download it from here:

dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2.html

open the .zip file, and copy the contents of the ms folder and the dgvoodoosetup.exe to the root of the septerra core game folder, and make sure you replace the ddraw.dll file when prompted.

Also would probably help to make sure you have a D3DCompiler_43.dll in your

C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder for 64bit
C:\Windows\system32 folder for 32bit

If you do not, you can install the directx end-user runtimes (june 2010) from here:
microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=8109

You can run the dgvoodoosetup.exe to make settings changes. I.e. set fullscreen or windowed, and set the virtual vram, etc..

This worked perfectly for me as of Aug 06 2017. The current GoG version runs the movies fine but the framerate is sluggy af. This should be marked as the solution to the problem, indeed the game runs now exactly as I remember running back in 2002 when I first played it. Great job, Silvery-Corgan.

March 2018

This worked for me. GOG needs to have this compatibility patch included with the installer, and if it auto-detects Windows 10, applies it automatically.

I'd like to add that your QT fix worked but before that you need to fix exe file which was not executable, so use the 1.04 patch: http://games.softpedia.com/progDownload/Septerra-Core-Legacy-of-the-Creator-Patch-Download-129757.html to overwrite your current exe file, then, update QT fix from Silver. My Problem Solved.
Additional help package: (if you need to)

Septerra.ini contains all the keyboard settings, now you can configure it how you like. RunSelect is to run from battle.

In the Septerra.ini under options add ScaleMode = 0 and CpuIdle = 5

[Options]
English = 1
ScaleMode = 0
CpuIdle = 5

I use dgVoodoo 2.52 with no problems.

This is wonderful! Thank you so much for this; the game runs like a dream, now!
