Just bought this game after looking through some obscure PC game databases, only to find out getting this to run on Windows 10 is a JRPG in itself lol.

I launched it without any modifications, black screen.

I downloaded the static release, launched, but the mouse was super laggy and could not find a workaround no matter what I tried (lowering my api, going into the config file).

I used dgvoodoo, worked great and felt great!....BUT THERE'S NO CUTSCENES! Never played the game before so that's kinda important!

I installed QuickTime 4, no luck. I tried the QoL patch that the speedrunners use, nothing. I feel like I've tried every damn thing under the sun and I haven't even gotten to play the game yet.

My question is, what am I doing wrong? Where do I go from here? I'm super frustrated with this whole thing, but I get even more frustrated when I have to give up. Any advice is appreciated, sorry for the rant.

Out of curiosity, what did https://tecagile.com/mouse-polling-rate-checker show your mouse polling rate to be?

Also did you try both CPU_SleepMode=reduced AND CPU_SleepMode=nosleep (more likely to work) in the Septerra.cfg? Did you enable v-sync?

You launched the game with the new SR-Septerra.exe too, I assume...

Only other thing i can suggest, is trying to see if removing/renaming ddraw.dll in the game folder makes any difference before launching the SR port.

It's frustrating when these old games don't play nice with modern systems!

Tell me about it! Though there is a certain "aha!" feeling that you get that's sometimes more satisfying than the games themselves lol.

I'm pulling about 600 with my mouse, and I saw in one of your older posts that 125 is ideal. I lowered that and had no luck

I did try both "CPU_SleepMode" toggles, maybe I'm putting them in the wrong place inside the config file? And of course I launched it through the SR-Septerra.exe, the gog exe wouldn't even launch when I had the SR lol.

UPDATE:

I can't tell if I'm the stupid one, or if GOG should really just fix this game. I was in the wrong config file, I kept editing the base game config file instead of the Static Release file, "septerra.cfg". It's crazy how such a silly little mistake can send you down such a huge rabbit hole, but hey, at least I can finally play the game lol.
Glad you got it working!
