Prator: When you want a character to move in combat, left-click on their picture or press the appropriate hotkey described in your manual. Once you've done that, the combat will pause until you either issue a command or right-click.
Note that a character cannot move at all until his or her Endurance bar is charged at least partway up, and the power of their attacks and spells is directly proportionate to how full the bar is.
If that doesn't work, stupidity isn't your problem; glitches are.
