I used to have the physical edition of this game, and I remember there being a few intro videos, but the game here is just skipping them for me. What can I do to fix this?

I tried to install unofficial patch, but that didn't fix it

I'mm running this on Windows 7 64 bit

Try the following:

1. Go to Septerra Core Properties.

2. Select Compatibility, then select XP Service Pack 2; Disable visual themes; Disable desktop composition. Apply

3. Run & play game as normal.

Let me know if this works for you.

That worked! Thank you! :D
It's a pleasure :) I'm really pleased it resolved the issue.
Had the same problem and this fixed it! Thanks!
now would be a good time to curse...
playing through septerra core was a long standing debt to myself. i started it once a decade ago or more but for some reason i never finished it.
i bought it on gog 4 years ago and now i had a week long vacation i thought its time to finish it.
i started it. i enjoyed it.
then it became more and more tiring (walking through mazes, fighting the same battles going in AND back) and i wished it was over. but once i started i wanted to finish it, to see the ending, have some sense of accomplishment and not to feel all the hours invested already wasted.
now its sunday evening, the last day of my vacation and i finished it. the last dialogue, might be paraphrasing a bit (with audience participation):

doskias:
'well have to raise the wastelands of shell 2.'
maya:
'oh no! thats oasis! oh no!'
(credits rolling...)
me:
'WHAT THE F...?'

thats the ending? couldnt believe it. i searched google, found a video with some nice ending cinematics. went to wikipedia, the game was released only for windows, the clip must have come from the win version. came here, saw it is a common problem, swore again.
now im quite frustrated. i powered through the last 25% of the game (i quite enjoyed it until then - i like sidequests, dialogues a lot of things in an rpg, but dungeon crawling is not one of them) and i couldnt even enjoy the crowning of my late accomplishment, the closing cinematics, not to mention the other ones...

i suggest to make this problem and its solution appear on the game page in a way people cant miss it. i think peole wont be bothered much about doing that little work with compatibility mode or at least much less than missing some of the games features like i did.
im not angry at gog, kudos to the guy who posted the solution - still, i cant help feeling cheated...

a few hours later...
thanks to the guys in the unofficial patch thread i could download and watch the videos. they were quite good considering the age of the game. in addition a few things were revealed like how campbell sacrificed himself - i always thought that it means that hes dying from decades of experimenting but no, the videos revealed that it was a literal and recent sacrifice. it was nice watching these clips - it would have been better as part of the game but im not complaining. anymore. much 8).

Any other suggestions for what to do if it still doesn't work after this?

If you're using a codec pack with ffdshow, LAV Filters or any of these installed standalone - try to find "LAV Video Decoder" in the menu and uncheck Cinepak in the formats tab. ffdshow uses ffmpeg libraries to override legacy codecs but it doesn't play nice with Septerra Core at all.

You can see if it's used by alt-tabbing out of the game as the movie is playing and checking if there's a red LAV icon in the system tray.

So, what's someone to do if this also doesn't work?

Maybe try something like SR - a project aiming to statically recompile certain games, Septerra Core included - but I never played with it so can't tell if it'd fix that particular issue.

Wow. Didn't expect to get a reply this quick for such an old game. Thanks a lot friend.
I did ultimately figure out what my issue was and I'm ashamed to say that it was in part, self inflicted.

I was using something called dgVoodoo to allow me to run the game in 1080p with anti-aliasing.
What I didn't realize was my copy of that API was slightly outdated, and getting the newest version fixed my problem.
Granted, I have no idea how, as even the outdated version was confirmed working, but I'm not complaining.
I'll take what I can get lol.
