Dialogues sometimes skip . Found a solution for WinXP (turn off hardware sound acceleration), but that's not much help for Vista. Any suggestions?

Right now the biggest danger I face is that I might "finish" the game before a patch gets posted. I'm enjoying it thoroughly, bug or no bug.

xuicsus: I don't think we will get a response. GoG posted a game that had an error in it that many people love. Instead of working a patch around it, they just put it out there with no warning to get money. Good job. You got money, now you got a lot of people frustrated too. Good business that is.

In all fairness, they've started posting major issues on game pages (example).

However, there's still no warning on this games page.
So far this seems to be a general issue for windows vista users, and it's rather disappointing that the game was (is) sold without a single warning.
I hope to see a solution as fast as possible.
You're assuming that they knew about the bug, in order to post a warning about it, before they released the game. For all we know, they never encountered the bug in their testing of the game prior to release. Additionally, the fact that there still is no warning could be an indication that they already have a fix in the works, so a warning is completely unnecessary. The fact is, we really don't know what the situation is until we hear from the GOG guys, but at the moment there is no reason to assume the worst.

cogadh: That's a bit unfair. Out of 100 games GOG sells, one of them has a bug that isn't even a game breaker and suddenly they are an evil, greedy company that is just in it for your money, quality be damned?

What's unfair about this situation is I sent them a letter about this problem as soon as I bought the game and found the bug still existed, but have YET to hear ONE word from GoG about the problem. Normally, businesses who care about their consumers will respond to problems as soon as possible. No, they won't fix everything, but at least they will CONTACT the person about it. Nothing. Zilch. Nada.
As for GoG not knowing about this problem? Do a google search on Septerra Core and Vista. The problem has been well known around the net for a long time now. To not know is just bad business on GoG's part for not fully investigating new games to their site without first seeing if it has any issues with Windows. Let's not forget, GoG was launched promising gamers the ability to play old-school games with zero problems in Windows. They launched their site knowing that there are many games which don't play as well as they did originally and said they would fix these problems so we can enjoy them now, all at a small price. The small price, check. The investigative reporting on the game before release to make sure it works as well as it did on release? Nope.
I post because I care. Really. I love old-school games. One of my favorite games is Privateer. Anyone who loves Privateer knows that it doesn't play in Windows. I really hope GoG continues to release old-school games... but I don't want them to release Privateer only to find OOOOPS! It doesn't work!

Well I don't know why they haven't responded to you, but they responded to my problem with this game twice within 24 hours of my initial e-mail to them. One of those responses actually solved my problem (the fatal panic error on XP, apparently also a well known bug with the game) and is now part of the known issues articles linked to on the game's infocard. Even so, the fact that they haven't responded to you doesn't really warrant your post. Again, a single problem with a single game does not make them a bad company, though it may mean they did make a mistake. GOG is still in beta after all, so mistakes and errors are definitely to be expected. If you expected more than that, then you really shouldn't have used the service while it is still in beta.
BTW - Did you even bother to follow up on your initial e-mail to them before you decided to post your minor rant here?

This has been discussed elsewhere, but I think the idea is the site is in beta..the games are not in any kind of beta release stage..no one else charges for games in a beta stage..that would be weird.

The service is still in beta, not just the website. Part of that service is the processes by which they test and update the games, as well as the post-sale technical support. Problems like the ones encountered with this game may lead to adjustments of that process to prevent or limit future occurrences like this, as is common with all betas.
Technically, isn't most of GOOGLE still in beta? I think it's a little bit of a meaningless term, used as a legal C.Y.A. at this point. Money has changed hands. GOG is still silent on this issue. A simple "We're working on it," or "We're aware of it, but without the original developer/publisher's permission we are unable to yadda yadda yadda..." would do wonders at this point.
Will this one issue sink GOG? No. Will it lose them a few, impatiently shortsighted customers? Probably. If it wasn't this, it would be something else -- people can get their noses twisted over pretty much anything, ESPECIALLY on the Net.

You know what, this poster actually read my post. He's right on. My qualms are not just with the game, but the fact that GoG has done nothing to ADDRESS the issue with me. I'm a patient guy, tell me somethings broke and we're working on it and I will more than happily give you lee-way. This hasn't happened. Kudos to you john.
We're aware of this glitch - we'll do our best to have it fixed ASAP.

An update on the issue would be nice indeed.
