Dialogues sometimes skip . Found a solution for WinXP (turn off hardware sound acceleration), but that's not much help for Vista. Any suggestions?

I've also had the problem under vista 32 bit.
Fortunately it has only happened with short sentences so far.
Same here, so far its only been the short sentences, none of the key story elements have been affected.
I have the same issue, and I'm using Vista 32-bit as well. No major story elements have been affected yet, but it would be nice to get a patch
Happens to me as well (Vista 32). It is not horrible or so, but a bit of a nuisance.
Seems like a widespread problem. We probably should send reports to support. As this is a story driven game, not some FPS, this issue is very annoying.
Im very disappointed. I own this game. I bought it from GOG.com because of the dialogue skip. GOG says it allows old games to run under windows, yet they released version 1.04 which DOES NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE ON WHY I BOUGHT THE GAME! Horrible. Simply horrible of GOG to not know of this problem and fix it.

Well if the game has any bugs like the ones you describe, chances are that is all within the game code which GOG doesn't actually modify.

Visions of UKJohn, only reversed.
I was under the impression that they will sometimes modify the code, if it is necessary and they are given access to the source. For all we know, this was one of those times that they weren't given access.
As for the problem at hand, have any of you tried lowering the sample rate conversion in addition to lowering the hardware acceleration on your sound card?

I haven't found a way to do that (lower hw acceleration) under vista :/
Sample rate was already at the lower setting.

I don't have Vista, but unless they have made major changes from previous OSes, it is usually found on the Performance tab in "Advanced Audio Properties". You can get to the by right-clicking on the speaker icon in the task bar or going to the "Sounds and Audio Devices" applet in the Control panel, then clicking on the "Advanced" button. Both the hardware acceleration and sample rate conversion settings should be there. Additionally, the hardware acceleration setting is available through DXDiag.
I did some googleing, and it seems that as a result of changing the driver model in vista, it lacks the option to turn sound acceleration off.
Oh. Well that would be a problem. That was kind of a stupid thing for MS to do. I can't tell you how many games I have that benefit from having that particular functionality.
Yeah, I heard that they the audio part of DirectX, on Vista, goes on a whole different route in the kernel, which causes all sorts of problems, particularly with accelleration on older hardware. Not sure how it stands now, but there might be some workaround...
I use XP, so I'm sorry I can't help more than that. :-(

Have you heard anything?
