I somehow fixed this by making the compatibility with Windows XP and check the execute as an admin, in the properties options
That did it for me. Thanks a lot, mate! :]
2nd game this week I fix by enabling Win xp compatibility mode... and me thinking it was useless! :D hehe

I'm running 64bit windows 7 and I got the movies to play by selecting xp compatibility mode! :)
Hi,
I've been having similar issues in Vista 32. I installed the Quicktime 4 that came with the game and the movies just showed up as a black screen with glitchy audio. I tried a bunch of variations of compatibility settings, and I tried what techLords and StarDruid suggested above, but it didn't change anything.
I googled a bit more and found mention of Quicktime Alternative, so I downloaded that (version 2.9.0 from filehippo.) In the Preferences for Quicktime Alternative on the Audio tab I set "Play Audio Using" to "Safe mode (waveOut only)" and took the Rate up to 48kHz. and on the Advanced tab turned off DirectDraw Acceleration, DirectDraw on secondary monitors, and Direct3D video acceleration. Then I decided to just put Video on "Safe mode (GDI only)" just in case.
Now I wasn't getting any AV at all... it would just skip straight to the main menu when I ran the game :(
But persevering, I played with the compatibility settings and found that using compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 2) and NOT running as administrator worked!
I hope this helps someone.

Win 7 user and Septerra noob here. The first video didn't play but I'm sure it's because I didn't do this first. Thanks everyone! Problem solved 8]
I can get the ingame movies to play but I can't the intro movie the one where Maya talks about the shinning jewels and such to work, I have it in XP compatibility mode run as admin and running Win7 64bit, I also have the Win7 codec pack from Shark so is there anyway to get that movie to work? Yeah I know really minor but it is very annoying to have a blank screen and sound
I, too, am having this problem, but with the orginal game (I can't get the GOG version right now) . I have also tried several different compatibility modes but to no avail. the game works fine, but the videos don't show and I only hear audio, which is has some noise distortion. Any help would be appreciated.
You can watch them outside the game pretty easily.

I recently played through and never got videos at all - dialog scenes ended and the game moved on with no indication that anything had been missed other than non-sequiturs in following conversations. I just played the video files (they're the numbered .DB files in the game directory) externally with VLC.

(MPlayer also works; Media Player Classic with CCCP may need settings tweaks).
Okay, I tried several things and I FINALLY got the movie working perfectly! I have the game running in Windows XP (Service Pack 2) compatibility mode (not as an Admin) and i updated Quicktime to latest version and in the Quicktime Audio Preferences, I have the audio sound set at the max kHz. I also instaled the game using the Complete INstall option. I hope this helps someone.
