In the intro of the game, the voices are fine, but as soon as you control the character, he has this high-pitched, Alvin and the Chipmunks voice. Any suggestions to alleviate the problem?

Play the game with no sound. If that doesn't work for ya, turn off voices. I play this game listening to LOUD music and have no problems.

Try different sound acceleration settings.
