I've made it to chapter 3 without problems, but when I click on the on the door to Morgan's lab or on the switch board next to the door, my controls just seem to freeze. the game goes on, (People moving about etc) and i'm able to play the sound effects using the function keys, but other then that i cannot seem to do anything. I cannot move, (cannot access the menu).. anyone encounter this before?
OS: Vista home premium 32bit

I just had the same problem.
I would advise both of you guys contact gog support and give them in as much detail as possible whats wrong. They also generally like it if you post a dxdiag as well.

This. ;)
We already got one report regarding this, hopefully a savegame will help us recreate this problem. The more reports, the merrier, though - it helps us find similarities between each case.
I've tried installing the game on two seperate computers, one a laptop and one a PC. Each time, I've used the same save-game. Both computers also have XP as their operating system.
Now then, the game plays fine up until a certain point in chapter 3. I haven't encountered the problem by clicking on Morgan's door, but I have encountered it where you open the box near the patient with that fish and Morgan's office. I open the box and click on the panel to use it, then the mouse cursor disappears and as mentioned, people still wander about and I can use the F keys to make my character say specific things, but it's impossible to progress beyond that point due to not seeing the puzzle interface or being able to move.
Edit: I'll see if I can use a dxdiag for both computers and send my save-game file.

It only happened once to me. I went back to a saved game, and tried twice, but the game did not crash again at the beginning of the 3rd chapter. I recall that the inital crash came after I tried to move my character during the "cut-scene" at the end of the 2nd chapter, and wonder if this may have been the problem. Or it simply could have been a random crash (though perhaps not too random).
Is there any update regarding this problem?
I emailed support on the 1st and haven't had a response yet. I'd like to send a save game, but I cannot find how to send it as an attachment. I can only send pictures.
I tried downloading the game earlier today also and the problem's still not fixed. This was using the old save file. Maybe I should start it from the beginning again though...
Anyway, it's a bit frustrating as I've never played the game before and I was enjoying playing the game up until I found I couldn't progress past chapter 3 due to the game freezing, despite characters moving around. When I use the broom on the panel outside Morgan's office, the cursor just disappears and I cannot do anything from there. I can't even access the menu screen to quit properly, but I can press F1/1 and Max'll make a noise.
(Using XP. Tried the game on both a laptop and PC with the same save file.)

I'm getting the same behaviour. What kind of info should I send to GOG?
Win XP SP3, ATI Radeon HD 3200, Phenom X3 here.
I'm having the exact same problem.
Any news on a solution?
Win XP SP3, GeForce 6800 GT
I also have this same problem! cursor disappears after i click that shack at the right side of screen and it also disappears if i click hose panel which is attached to the shack. So is there any solution? I would like to finish this game someday....
It's been so long since I played this game, but I believe I muted the game somehow from the in-game settings.
If not muted, I did something else through the settings, to get past this place.
I think I've found a solution.
1. Download the save-games from this location: http://www.justadventure.com/thejave/html/Games/GamesS/Sanitarium/SanitariumSaves.zip
2. Load Chapter 3.
3. Go straight to Morgan's office, without interacting with anything or anyone else.
4. Open the door.
5. Examine the toolbox thingy.
It worked with me.
Now i got it working! I just loaded save game that i had saved at the beginning of the level and went straight to the shack door and opened it.

I second this! I also inspected the control panel for the water supply as well as the record player before talking to anybody.
I never received any emails from GoG in response to the ones I sent. I don't know if it was my email provider blocking them for some reason (it's done it to one other place) but I did manage to fix it myself. Just thought I'd share it.
Anyway, I re-downloaded the game and started again from scratch. It worked for me and allowed me to get past chapter 3. I think I used a different laptop though... not sure.
