13/05/2015 Update:
GOG has added a "DLC Blocker" patch that you can find in your game library. It allows you to block certain overpowered DLC items from activating within the game.

_________________________________________________________

12/05/2015 (Redundant)

If you want to enable/disable some DLC (for balance issues or whatever), edit the gog.ini file in your game folder with a text editor (the notepad for example)

An example of the ini file editing by our fellow GOGer "benrg":

Here is a complete list of DLCs for Saints Row The Third, with Bloodsucker and Unlockable disabled and the others enabled. Put it in the [EnableDLC] section of gog.ini, and delete what's there currently

Bloodsucker Pack = disabled
Explosive Combat Pack = enabled
FUNTIME! Pack = enabled
Gangstas In Space = enabled
Genki Girl Pack = enabled
Genkibowl VII = enabled
Horror Pack = enabled
Invincible Pack = enabled
Money Shot Pack = enabled
Nyte Blayde Pack = enabled
Penthouse Pack = enabled
Shark Attack Pack = enabled
Special Ops Vehicle Pack = enabled
Steelport Gangs Pack = enabled
The Trouble With Clones = enabled
Unlockable Pack = disabled
Warrior Pack = enabled
Witches and Wieners Pack = enabled
Z Style Pack = enabled

At the time of writing, SR2 GOG version is an improvement on steam version, however the game is still slightly speedup but is playable. Graphics performance depends heavily (and randomly) on your config so having a good or bad rig won't really matter in your abilty to put everything on max or not. I will update this OP when new and relevant infos will come out.

According to "Thiev" from the GOG team, the game is capped at 30 fps so you shouldn't expect to go higher.

For SR2 mods, the most popular is "Gentlemen of the Row". Available here:
http://idolninja.com/sr2.php

***IMPORTANT***

If you're still unsatisfied with the way SR2 works on your computer, you can use the 30-days refund feature of GOG:
https://www.gog.com/support/website_help/money_back_guarantee

TLDR: Choose the "technical issues" options on the contact page:
http://www.gog.com/support/contact
After dealing with the tech staff and if your problem is unresolved you can then ask for the refund.

This isn't actually true. The game is exactly the same as SR2 on Steam - it's an absolutely identical EXE with only the copy-protection ripped out.

A 30 fps cap doesn't fix SR2's underlying issues.

Can someone from GOG please tell us what was done to improve the game apart from removing its DRM? The written announcement of the game's arrival at GOG implied that the game had been patched in some way, but this doesn't appear to be the case judging by the posts both on this forum and at saintsrowmods.com.

I'm disappointed if GOG is selling essentially the same version that is on Steam without informing people how poor the port is. I have crashed multiple times during missions even with the Gentlemen of the Row mod installed. Audio quality is really bad, and (not on 100% of systems, but certainly on mine) the game is sped up like crazy. Somehow I'm getting through the missions, but it's not really fun (I know PC Gaming Wiki suggests a fix involving a 3rd party tool, but I kinda WANT to suffer, so that I actually LISTEN next time I see people complaining about a piss poor port).

IF the GOG version is actually fit for purpose, I do apologize. If not you really ought to properly inform customers of what they're getting into. I was THIS close to writing a somewhat angry 2-star review.
As a reminder for folks still having issues with SR2, I updated the OP with the 30-day refund memo.

EDIT: also included the DLC Blocker patch in OP

I have bought saints row 2 on a dvd some time ago, which needed to be activated at steam.
The files were copied from the dvd though. Anyway, i have no problems so far with SR2. No crashes or something like that. So i can't agree that SR2 doesn't work. And i play without any mods, so also without gentlemen of the row. Only thing is that i die too soon, especially when riding a bike and crash against an other vehicle, My char flies through the air, lands and dies. That's a thing i hate about SR2. In SR3 this is luckily not the case, but there you have a camera with an own will.
Anyway, i ended up buying SR2 and 3 here as well, because it doesn't contain drm.
But is the gog version bugged?
edit: wrong topic

Interesting.
I'm playing the Steam version with the Gentlemen patch installed and I feel like my character is running in slow motion.
The only way for my character to seem like they're running normally is to hold down the SPRINT key
Before passing away Mike "idolninja" Watson shutted down his own site, because it wasn't used much anymore.
You can still find the Gentlemen of the Row supermod over at Saints Row Mods.

https://www.saintsrowmods.com/forum/threads/gentlemen-of-the-row.24/

Ever since my last post here i later installed GotR, both on the steam version and the GOg version, cause GotR does fix car handling and such, so that you don't die too soon. Still, it is recommend, even with gentlemen, to save often.
Gentlemen of the Row is a must to install.

For Saints Row The Third (the original) Idolninja made Gentlemen of Steelport (GoS)
https://www.saintsrowmods.com/forum/threads/gentlemen-of-steelport-compilation.8/
Using it myself ever since then and it makes SR:TT more playable and enjoyable.
I combine it with a bunch of other mods, such as shiny clothes from fan of saints and jedidave's character customizer plus the baby got curves slidermod, which was posted under the remaster (since it's an xtbl file it's also compatible with the original)
