I just bought Saints Row 2 on GOG, it doesn't crash but the game does run at about 2x normal speed, is there a known fix for this?

I've looked online but I can't seem to find anything that would help me.

Yeah, it's a long standing issue with the game and the threads here about the game performance mention this. GOG's version is supposed to be the best so far in terms of keeping a steady framerate, but as for running too fast, that's because of the game being designed for a specific speed. There's info on it at the PCGamingWiki:

http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Saints_Row_2#Saints_Row_2_running_too_fast_at_1.5x_speed

You can try the fixes it mentions, or you can throttle your CPU, run it on single or dual core rather than quad or however many cores your CPU has. The Gentlemen of the Row mod is also supposed to help with this.

None of the fixes seem to be guaranteed, though.

THe easiest way to fix this is to download SR2 Powertools. You can adjust game speed in the INI file. I have mine set to .9 % and that makes the game run at just about the right speed.

Powertools actually looks for a specific version of the exe, so it likely won't work with the Gog version until Minimaul updates it. We got him codes for this version so he can test and update all his tools though!

You are wrong on this one IdolNinja. I have Powertools in my SR2 GOG folder and was able to change the speed and it works just fine.

I have installed in this order: Gentlemen of the Row, Powertools, and then a Resolution Mod as the game does not allow 1600x900. All of this works just fine.

Good to know. I passed that on to Minimaul.

I've checked this out now - the SR2 exe is exactly the same as the Steam release - the only difference is that it doesn't have the Steam DRM wrapper on it. It has exactly the same set of bugs and issues, and Powertools only works without modification because the EXE is absolutely identical.
GOG version runs more poorly than Steam version.. In GOG version i have around 16-23 FPS (22 AVG) while in steam version i have 16-60 FPS (avg 40). How could even someone make this happen ? On top of that, GOG version with its inferior FPS manages to have the same issues with game speedup timers.
