I own Saints Row 2 on Steam but never played it much. I constantly had technical problems that not even the extensive fan patches seemed to be able to fix. This included having to mess about with settings relating to CPU timings. It was a whole faff that put me off and I never resolved to a playable state.

The announcement for the GOG release of SR2 says it got the "GOG treatment" including a performance patch. How is it?
Let us some time to download it and play it, we can't test that in 5 minutes :o)

Your lack of time travel capabilities offends me.

Seriously though, I thought it might be helpful to have a thread collecting comments about the performance of this altered version, so created one in anticipation. I wasn't expecting it to get many responses straight away but hopefully this will become useful for people like me.

Well, I'll have to post my test results in 3 different threads just to say if the game works normally or not. Geez, GOG should pay me for testing their stuff :o)

EDIT: BTW, currently installing, I'll play for 30min, I guess that would be enough....

One cannot...."Fix"...The Saints Row 2 port...

...It...It was not meant to be...."Fixed"....
Would be a damn shame if the latest patch was exclusive to GOG. Don't get me wrong, I love buying games here and all but I had this on steam years ago and could never play it due to the issues.

I hear you. I mean, I wouldn't mind rebuying with the mindset of "DRM Free Version" along with it fully working, but I doubt the game has been improved to any marginal degree.

Probably hasn't, but I'll wait for performance reviews first. If it''s worth it, I would gladly pay £2 for it. Also GOG galaxy features like achievements would be great too.
********* SAINTS ROW 2 GOG PORT TEST REVIEW **********

tested on Intel i5-4460s , 6Go RAM with GeForce 720 2 Go

I began playing with the standard x360 controls but in-game the instructions are still for keyboard+mouse so as it was a little confusing to guess the buttons, I switched overtime to K+M. I had to tone down the mouse sensitivity because it was way too fast.

Overall, the game speed is fine (the default walk looks like a benny hill ending but you can walk "normally"), I drove around the city and expereinced no issue or no crash or whatever so after 30min of gameplay, this port seems fine.

O_O

N-no...

I refuse to believe it was running well.

Nothing seemed sped up or anything?

At the beginning when I was using the X360 controller, yeah but I think that was some kind of miscalibarion because the enemies/npc were moving at normal pace. To be sure, I relaunched the game with keyboard+mouse and it was working normally (apart from the default walk)

Not quite sure what this means. The game speed is fine, yet you run around like a Benny Hill ending (sped up immensly) but you can walk normally ???????

Say what ? That just contradicts itself.

What settings and resolution is this at? I'm surprised a 720 can run this considering I had more powerful GPUs that struggled even on low settings

(So...what kinda FPS are you getting?)
If you really want to test the speed up bug you simply have to take place in a race. The seconds are too fast in it if the speed up bug still exists (which probably is the case). It would also be interesting to see if they fixed the prefetch problem which lead to stuttering when driving fast. This was not so much an issue on Win7 and above as it was on XP since XP has no built in prefetchin itself. I use Win7 as well as XP but I am curious to know if they have changed anything because the game was just not playable on XP. Another extreme bug was the steering of the vehicles when using keyboard and mouse. Please report if GOG has changed anything of this.
