Seems like noone tested Saints Row 2 before the giveaway, as it wont even start, opens, minimises then crashes & the support page suggests download a codec pack & fart about fixing that first

Surely it should have been test and fix the game to use what is expected...

It's unbelievable how immature and irresponsible people who publish and sell this game are. After so many years the game is unplayable on pc, yet it's being sold.
I've downloaded cracked version of the game few months ago. Even though I got it for free I was forced to uninstall it. It's a great game, but what could I do.
Now, I decided to try the original version out, and it's the same as cracked version - unplayable. Even though I got it for free I'm still mad, 'cause I wasted my time in vain.
I found the Gentlemen of the Row mod to improve stability, as well as add a bunch of extras. But I agree, it is not optimized for the pc. It takes a lot of fine tuning for the controls not to be a jumpy mess.

I'm using the mod as well, and having no problems.
nobody can fix the game... source code is gone... when will that finally settle in you peoples' brains?

instead of complaining incessantly, learn how to code yourself, learn how to maintain your machines better...

mayber after that you can do better... come on people... sheesh...

Every man and his dog, including Volition's own community manager (who even made GotR), know this. The gameplay overshadows all issues, so if you actually include GotR, you'll find that the game is enjoyable.

For GotR, I found the standard build just wasn't cutting it. I recommend choosing the mods yourself, rather than using the standard build, for the best experience. Especially the driving fix, it was like Pong on steroids trying to drive anywhere.
Give something away for free and people just complain. Would you entitled little snowflakes like your money back?
I would have posted a fix but the forum does not allow me to post links, so search STEAM & I still content that it is bad PR to promote something that has known issues & not at the very least have a link to possible work arounds, but to suggest a codec (pack) that is KNOWN to break almost everything it touches!

You need to get your reputation to 10 or higher to post links. It's a spam prevention method, mostly.

The link you refer to is here, a very useful reference.

How is it bad PR to make a game which is otherwise lauded free? How is it bad PR to release anything for free to begin with? GOG as a store isn't responsible for the low port quality that both Volition and CD Projekt (not Red, and also not GOG) are responsible for. A FAQ should be pinned here, though. Someone should call IdolNinja to post one.

What does your crash message even say?

Where is the part which explains how to remove frame cap?
Well

got SR2 for free from GOG, no mods installed, played 1/3 through so far and had only 2 crashes yet ( both after 5h + playsessions, so its maybe a mem leak).
So I save and exit after 2 hours.....

Actually, some mission scripts are broken. Sometimes they load fine, sometimes they miscalculate something and either behave unexpectedly or crash. As much as I sound obnoxious to myself for advertising it this often, but GotR fixes these.
The driving is really awful :-( considering how much one drives, or could drive if it was more fluid, in this game it is a big con.

Which is why at least two handling mods exist. Though I wonder if anyone plugged a controller to drive on the PC release, does it make any difference...
