I didn't see this specifically mentioned but I know I'm not the only one with this problem.

It won't let me change to the resolution I want, any ideas?

It lets me go really low (looks bad) or really high (shit framerate) but not in the middle. It keeps telling me change failed.

I'm all ears. :D

First of all, which game are you asking about?

Not to mention such things as the resolution he's attempting to change to, OS, GPU, drivers and all other pertinent information.
I'm having a lot of trouble posting in the community forums! OY! XD

Okay, now it's working. :D

Anyway I really want to apologize for that over site. I'm always giving people shit for doing that and here I am doing it, no doubt wrapping up the Asshole of the Month Award. :P

Anyway it's number 2, and like I told a few other people, I got it working at some high resolutions with the Ambiance thing turned off giving me a good FPS. Still though I am genuinely curious why some resolutions work and some don't. I found some stuff in the Steam forum about it but all those turned out to be are Steam regs yelling at people for asking about it. XD Typical Steam forum.

I just got home and saw your reply in Chat, then fired up the game to see if I could change the res setting (I could), then came here to find you no longer need help. (Well, not the kind we're qualified to give, at any rate. =D ) Glad you figured out a way to get it working decently.

Some unsolicited advice: If you notice the action in the game seems a little sped up, I would strongly recommend looking into a little utility called Saints Row Powertools -- it allows you to fiddle with the speed the game runs at (by default it runs WAAAAY too fast -- about 50% faster than normal on my laptop, for example), thus making it more playable. An improved vehicle handling mod is also advised -- you'll see why. =)

Did you try all the resolutions? Some work and some don't. That's what gets me. Of course it's minor but still curious to me.

Oh, no, I didn't -- I thought you meant that it simply wouldn't let you change the resolution setting at all, so I just started the game, went to Options -> Display -> Choose Resolution, and confirmed that I could select the different res options. But going through them now and selecting each, one by one, I see what you mean -- 1280x800, 1440x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1080, and 1920x1200 try to switch, then tell me the change failed; the other nine settings all tell me to restart to have the change take effect (which was the reason I didn't check any more thoroughly earlier: I thought you meant the "change failed" message appeared after you restarted; and as you can imagine, I wasn't wild about the idea of starting the game, changing one setting, quitting the game, then repeating that process thirteen more times =D ).

I notice that, of the five resolutions that gave the error message, four were 8:5 resolutions. 1920x1080 is 16:9, though, so I'm not sure this means anything.

How long does it take for the game to restart? That does seem weird though.
