Hi,
It's ages since I played this game, but I remember back then the blurb contained the same phrase as on the gog description:
"Which god will he choose? Will he sacrifice himself to change this world for the better, or will what remains of this world be sacrificed for one god's glory? "
I spent ages before having played through as each of the 5 gods, trying to find a combination that allowed for the "sacrifice himself" part, but couldn't. Have I misunderstood it?
Cheers,
Will
You've misunderstood it, possibly.
There is no combination of missions that allows you to give up your own life in order to save more than one god or goddess. This should become obvious from the get-go, when all the gods make it clear that they're working at cross-purposes and have no intention of stopping, because everyone one of them is unshakably convinced that they are in the right.
The only way Eldred can "Sacrifice" himself is in the non-physical sense, giving himself over to a life of servitude to whichever deity he thinks is best. Persephone and James both seem to offer this, insofar as they are the only gods that don't offer to trade you power in exchange for destroying their enemies, and won't create a dystopian nightmare out of the world once they're the only god left, as Charnel and Pyro would.

Thanks,
I suspected as much, but it was always nagging me that I'd missed something.

The way I see the personal sacrifice in it. Is loss of personal integrity. Will you do as asked or feel what you think right? The first Pyro mission is a good example of this.

That's quite an old thread dude, I had moved on. Still, thanks for the reply. Personally I think it was just a bit of marketting blurb for the game, perhaps they hadn't decided on the end at the time. As for Eldred losing personal integrity, he had summoned a demon, and destroyed his entire world (that he was a tyrannical ruler of). I'm not sure there's a much lower to sink.

Nope. Eventually, as I've read it, Only one god remains standing.
