After your great reception of the Giants: Citizen Kabuto retrospective, Evan Shamoon is taking us behind-the-scenes of the development process of David Perry's Sacrifice.
Essentially, Sacrifice was a 3D real-time strategy game before 3D real-time strategy games existed. Unlike the genre’s leaders at the time—the Command and Conquers and Warcrafts of the world—Sacrifice took the bold step of letting the player control an individual character on the battlefield, and offered them the opportunity to play the game from an entrenched third-person perspective. It put the player in the action for the first time, rather than above it.
Great editorial for a fantastic game !
The graphical choices for this game (quirky creatures instead of your usual tolkienesque cast) were indeed a great move by Shiny... too bad the first expansion was never released.
Even though I do not have the game I really enjoyed reading the background story. It now makes me think I should give it a go.
Thanks for another article and proving the community with source that would otherwise never be seen. Well done gog.
Battlezone did it before Sacrifice....loved that game. Especially multiplayer...

I'd recommend it :)
Good work guys. Keep 'em coming.

Editorial is appreciated!
Sacrifice is very pretty looking and a good load of fun.
I've still yet to finish it though, it has some punishing difficulty spikes at various points where you have to think up new strategies.
Plus, it has the voice of Tim Curry as Stratos. That has to be a bonus in itself.

Great article!
Is there any chance you could add an "articles" or "editorials" section across the top navigation bar? I went looking for the Giants editorial a while back, and had to trawl through the news to find it.
You guys beat me to the punch. Sacrifice is a great game, I'm not trying to denigrate it, but it was definitely NOT the first of its kind. Battlezone was a 3D RTS that put you right in the middle of the action two full years before Sacrifice did it.
For that matter, Uprising did it THREE years before...

Yes...they do :) ....would be great if they could get a system for multiplayer running as well since I doubt many play it online anymore.
Sacrifice is an incredible game and it's SO good to see it get some recognition and love from GOG. Way to go!
Thanks to Shiny for making this game! It has been a huge inspiration to me as a game player and aspiring game programmer.
Hopefully Sacrifice can get a revival enough to provoke Sacrifice 2!!!!
Sacrifice is the only game besides Fallout 1 that I can replay infinitely. I wish there would be a sequel. Many thanks for this editorial.

There's easy way to find editorial news. You go to news archive , click show all and then search for "editorial" and viola.
