Hmmm what can I say? I purchased it when it was released so many years ago, I played it so many times, I create avatars based on the game character, put Stratos as desktop wallpaper on my PC for years, scanning hopelessly at the gaming horizon for a gem like this to come out, ever, please please please why don't anyone make this kind of game anymore, lost hope, forgot, find this site, and immediately repurchase, installed with no problem, and enjoy the glory old days. The setting, the unique quality is still unparalled even with today's game. Long live Sacrifice. May younger generation learn this one hidden game and continue the tradition!

The Shiny Entertainment that once existed pretty much died after making Sacrifice. Quirky games are rarely commercial successes, so the team members that stayed with the company moved on to making licensed games for Atari, like Enter the Matrix. It was a terrible game, but the Matrix fanbase made it a lucrative one for Shiny. Path of Neo was a bit better.

Since then they hit more financial troubles and David Perry gave up his spot as CEO in order to help sell Shiny to a good home. They were sold to Foundation 9 Entertainment and marged with another studio to form Double Helix Games. The best game to their name these days is Silent Hill: Homecoming.

Other people went on to form Planet Moon Studios, which brought us the amazing Giants: Citizen Kabuto and Armed & Dangerous, but now they're making casual Wii & iPhone games. It's sad that, even with so many great games behind them, both companies have been reduced to shambling husks of their former selves.
Geez that is truly sad... thanks for the info btw

I wish them (people at Shiny) good luck and other game developers to at least not to give up the idea on making such games. I know this is just wishful thinking, but still. Look at the current games, most of them are pretty shallow, very typical. No cross genres. No new experiences. Example: so far I haven't found a single game where the ultimate weapons (in this case means Sacrifice's most powerful spells) are powerful -and- uncontrollable at the same time. This makes casting them so interesting.Oh well. And the art, the sound, for me it was perfect.

Maybe after gamers stop buying popular (aka boring) games then they will consider this game type.
I don't think that quirky games will ever usurp Call of Duty. There is a vocal minority that loves games like Sacrifice, Oddworld, Psychonauts, etc. but there is a huge majority that would rather just get online and shoot people for the quick-and-easy endorphin rush that it gives them (they speak mostly with money and cursing on Xbox Live).

The average intelligence of people is fairly low, and stupid people prefer mindless entertainment that doesn't need to be viewed as art in order to be appreciated.
It is a great game, but the final level is too difficult.

It's not too difficult, you just have to be careful. you should not attack, guardian every single one of your creatures onto your manalith. Only build very strong units, and remember that Marduk can pick up blue souls as though they were his, so if any creatures die then get there quick.

Then first thing you do when he attacks is try to kill Marduk. That should buy you enough time to grab a few enemy souls. Then repeat until he has none left. Then slowly work your way around his manaliths mopping up any spare creatures he has (he stops attacking once he's out of souls). If you've played as persephone or charnel your final spell allows you to either convert a creature, or blow it up into blue souls.

It really is an amazing game all around. It's a huge shame that it never caught on and that so few people know about it's existence. I myself didn't even know about it until I downloaded it for a lark off the Gametap service. This is the sort of game that truly deserves to spawn a franchise but alas... your average gamer is not imaginative enough to appreciate a gem such as this.
