I have Sacred and Sacred Underworld but there are some bugs left even with all patches. Are these fixed in the GOG version?
I remember one that made me ultimately stop playing when I tried it again a few months ago: After doing one certain side quest it is impossible to finish another certain one because the item (Gold berries or so) can't be taken.
I have the German version and the quest is called "Windgeflüster" there. There's no solution to that bug on internet. Since the GOG version also is 2.28 I fear the bug is still there... :-(
Thanks!

I'm fairly sure this version is the same as the retail one, just with whatever compatibility fixes added in to get it to run on newer systems if any were needed. The quest bugs are still going to be in the game, I've completed the game a couple times and apart from a few of the side missions that bug out and are uncompletable the main mission worked fine, so I could win the game. You just need to ignore the ones that don't work and move on to other ones.

Well, I completed the game once when it came out and didn't encounter the bugs - they only appear if that quest in the desert is done before the other ones, I heard.
If you can test if the bugs are still inside I can give you the solution rep. ;-)

Don't own the gog version of this. Just not seen any mention on these forums of extra bug fixes which are normally a big thing if gog goes the extra mile to fix it or the dev brings out an extra patch on a game thats not had patches for many years.

Is this a quest given by a witch near Florentina? I recall doing it with the non-GOG version, and not encountering any problems whatsoever, the witch took the berries from me alright. What exaclty was the problem with the other quest?
I suspect it may be a problem with the German version...
Anyway, if you can confirm it's that quest from Florentina, I'll check it for you (I have the non-GOG and the GOG version.)

Yes, the quest is given by that witch.
I also was able to do the quest normally on my first play (where I completed the game). It seems the bug is caused by either:
- The quest is accepted and afterwards the quest where you have to find the right vase in the desert is accepted and finished before the witch's quest is finished.
- The quest with the vases in the desert is done before the witch's quest is accepted.
Download the latest save files here, if you want. Game 08 is with quest accepted but not started, Game 09 is with berries taken but I can't give it back. The last save without the vase quest done or the other one accepted would be unreasonably long ago (it's before I fought the dragon in the desert - i.e. not far away when you start a new game anyway).

I've tried downloading these saves, but RapidShare keeps telling me to try again in 2 minutes. Would you mind sending them to my e-mail address? It's <email address>.
So, the problem seems to be that the berries can't be given to the witch if the correct vase (or maybe any other?) has been selected?

No idea, that's just what I read on internet. I'll send a mail.
EDIT: Sent it, now you better remove your addy from here. ;-)

OK, I've tried it, and I can confirm this bug is in the GOG version as well. What is especially strange is that the berries don't even show up in the quest items list, but the pointer points clearly to the witch.
So yeah, this bug is still in there.
EDIT: I've just tried it with an own character, with "tabula rasa" (created a LAN game just for myself and started a hack'n'slash session, thus no quests are done), went to the oasis, completed the quest about the correct urn, then went to the witch, got quest, picked up goldberry, but it didn't show up on my char's Quest items list ("Key" was the only entry there), and the witch didn't finish my quest. So, same results.
Conclusion: only buy GOG's version if the convenience of no CD required even for installation and the extras are enough of an incentive to do so.

Thanks! Since I can play without CD anyway (I think that was also done in some later patch), I won't need to buy it from GOG then. Maybe I'll do at some point to see the english version and support GOG, but now I wait for the big deal that is announced tomorrow.
For future reference here is a link to some common glitches in Sacred Gold . . .=)

Alright, after reading some posts on some other forums, I've come to the conclusion that there is a bug with The Riddle of the Desert quest, which breaks 3 or 4 other quests (Whispers in the Wind - the one we're talking about here, Where is the Blacksmith, Painting in Mascarell, and the last stage of The Unknown Warrior). This is a known bug, and the recommendations are to leave The Riddle in the Desert quest till you've done these other quests, or skip either The Riddle in the Desert, or any of the other quests you did not do before doing that one.

I, myself, am going back to before The Riddle in the Desert (which is a long way to go back, for me), and trying to finish the others, then come back.

As for the key, as I recall, mention is made when you get it of a place where it is to be used (that, or it's in the quest listing for The Riddle in the Desert, after you successfully find the key).

[Note: I usually try to do all the quests in an area I've been sent to, seems I need to be careful not to do that if I was only sent there by a side quest. On the other hand, I don't want to complete the main quest line only to find that there are a lot of places I never went to and early quests I never solved, because I just followed the main quest line and only did quests in those cities.]

The side quest is called Whisper in Wind and you have to bring the berries to the witch. I went to the area to get the berries and picked them up, but when I returned to the witch she acts as if I don't have the berries. So, the bug is still in the game up to this point of time too.
