As in the title, How does it work on Windows 10?Can you play without the community patch?
I play it without community patch on Windows 10, but I would like to know how gog version does work with community patch - did GOG change anything in the game?
You don't need the Community Patch to run the game on Windows 10. However the Patch will help with performance and prevent crashing from memory leaks.

GOG + CM Patch works just fine. This is how my system is set up.
So it's still fun and playable without the community patch?

Eh... well technically I'm sure you could have fun without it. I could never go back though. There are a lot of bugs and missing content without the patch. Chances are you may not be aware of most of them, since many involve broken mechanics, missing monsters, drops, etc. that aren't readily apparent. On the more obvious side, you can expect a lot of weird quest behavior, such as broken & unfinished quests, quests that leave markers on the map. And logbook entries that don't group together quests properly.

There is also an issue with boss AI. Without the patch you will a lot of main campaign bosses with wander aimlessly or stop in their tracks because they're unable to cast some abilities that they are supposed to have.

I know it's a lot to take in, but if you want you can read the total list of things the patch fixes here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_2UcD-_lE-D2-yokJ6_3Ywfm7375yXNB/view

Don't get me wrong, the Community patch sounds amazing, and I'd REALLY love to get it, but I've read more than a few posts with people saying they got malware within the Community patch and that makes me scared..

Install the NVidia PhysX software. It is required if you have any other video card than NVidia. The DVD version have one version included but it is free and downloadable from the company's site.
I'm on win 10 1909 I had to put compatability mode for XP SP3 on for it to start.

Well, that didn't help me. Right now, I see the loading screen of Sacred 2 when I start it up, but once the videos of Deep Silver etc. should appear, there is just a black screen that doesn't go away (I can't even go to the task manager anymore). I've been to the Dark Matters Forum to ask for help, but didn't get any useful advice there. So, I am turning to this forum to see, if anybody got the same problem.

Tried compability as well and some other suggestions, but none so far helped with my problem.

Sadly I have no any other ideas than what was already posted by everyone. You can try reinstalling DirectX 9 to see if the other DirectX version didn't messed it up, or the same for the PhysX software if you maybe installed an incompatible one. Maybe it is possible to edit the settings without starting the game by opening the right file, you can try disabling options there too but I don't know if the game store those in a plain .cfg/txt file.

Ok, guys, I finally found the solution that actually worked on another forum (World of Players, thx to Khaosmind there, who suggested it).

Copy
- d3d9.dll
- d3d9on12.dll
From
"C:\Windows\SysWOW64"
To
"...\Sacred 2 Gold\system"

After that you can start Sacred 2 via the exe without compability mode or launch options.

It works then. Honestly I had more trouble running the game on my WinXP than Win10 due to the incompatibility of the old AMD card I had and the PhysX.
