Hi Folks,

Just bought this today but cannot play it. A few seconds after running it it reports that the .exe has stopped working. I have tried to google this issue and nothing really online. People have tried suggesting the DEP function of windows 7 ([using the 64bit version btw] but still hasn't worked.

I am at a loss. All other GoG games have worked flawlessly but rune is a pain in the butt. I have tried to contact gog direct but cannot because they want you to submit DXDIAG and everytime I try this I get a message saying that dxdiag is the 'wrong format'. I have no idea why it keeps saying it's the wrong format. There only seems to be one way to dump/export the report and gog doesn't like it.

I can't even ask gog for a refund because all emails to them seem to want the dxdiag file [wth?]

Btw, I have tried the compatability mode of windows 7 and still nothing works. Normally I find a solution to most windows issues but ths really has been a nightmare. I have ran out of things to try.

TIA

Are you saving it as a .txt or .xml file? Try the other one.

Actually for some problem types it doesn't check for the dxdiag file, e.g. multiplayer key request.

Support, choose an option besides the Technical issues with games.

Thanks so much Gydion for your reply. I really don't know what happened regarding the dxdiag file but I just reattempted to contact GoG support and was now able to send the file. Not sure what was up there??? anyway, I will wait back from gog support and see what they say. I have tried evereything and this game just won't budge. Doesn't wanna know. I use window 7 64bit and had some issues with other games (steam) but managed to get round it somehow but this is being a right pain.

Fingers crossed they can sort something out for me...

having the same issue with windows 7 64bit, trying to play Rune Gold, did you find a solution
noticed that there are no files in the music folder of the gold edition but are 21 files in the music folder of the classic version, are these files missing ( redownloading doesn't make them appear )
Ignore that: I had the same problem on win7 64 bit. Game strait up refused to work even though it runs fine on my win8.1 laptop. I found a fix for myself in pcgaming wiki: pcgamingwiki. com/wiki/Rune#Issues_fixed
I used win8 solution for low fps namely I downloaded modified DDRAW.dll and just dropped it into games's system folder as per wiki instructions. It runs in the window now half of the time: it starts the process but doesn't go forward, so kill the process and start again. The windowed problem is solved by borderless gaming.

Update: Be ware if you increase vertical size of your window (by dragging the edge of the window) above certain amount of pixels most of the objects will be gone or some other ones will be glitchy. To undo this you need to reduce the size of the window (So borderless gaming won't work with this game on my 1440p monitor).

Read this:
Update 2: My main problem turned out to be full screen mode. Rune just won't run no matter what I do and how old of a solution for UE1 I use. So to still be able to enjoy the game go to Rune Classic/System/Rune.ini and change the
'StartupFullscreen=True' to 'StartupFullscreen=False'. Also here you can precisely adjust your window size, if you type too big of a resolution it will automatically set it to max of 2048*1200. Also2 in [Engine.Engine] it is better to change your render to GameRenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice by ensuring that it is the only GameRenderDevice that doesn't have ' before it. I tried like 5 or 6 other renders for UE1 from dx9 to dx11 and few versions of openGL but natural DirectDraw of Rune and windowed mode is the only way for me to get normal Rune experience.
