Hi,

I've noticed that both RCT1 and RCT2 both max out 1 CPU core on my Windows 7 system (even while the game is at the main menu or paused etc.). (i.e. constant 13% CPU usage.) Does anyone know why this is happening and/or how to fix it please? Maybe the framerate is uncapped or something, and somebody knows a tweak to cap it to 60 fps?

Thanks :)

OpenRCT2 can manipulate the framerate.

OpenRCT2 can manipulate the framerate.
thanks, it took me a while to find the option (top right Options button in this image), and it defaults to capped (at 40, with no way that I can see to change it, but its fine) which is nice. Uncapping shows the same CPU usage as "closed"-RCT(2), which proves/confirms that it is indeed an FPS problem there. It'd be nice if GOG could fix it, so I don't need to install third party software to fully enjoy the games I bought, but hey, I'm happy I have a workaround. Thanks again!

They'd need permission from Chris Sawyer and/or Atari, if that's even the source of the problem.

OpenRCT2 is code-independent from RCT2 anyway, so the authors might optimize it at some point.

While I recommend using OpenRTC2 as the other posters mentioned, you could also try forcing on V-Sync using your video control panel. This will cap the frame rate to your monitor's refresh rate. This is a common hack that works well.

If you don't have the option in your video card's panel you can go look around the web for the other utility options out there.
