THIS IS NOT THE DOS VERSION. DON'T GIVE ME DOSBOX ADVICE!!!
Like the topic says, I get as far as halfway through the opening Apogee logo, and it crashes back to desktop. Running as admin does nothing. Running directly from ROTT.EXE(32 or 64 bit version) doesn't help.
I installed the game and then the patch.
I installed the UE3 runtime.
Windows 7 64 Bit.
GT 220 1GB version.
Quad Core processor
4GB of Ram

Same exact thing with me. I've been unable to have any success as well. It's a real shame.

Hi,

When you have the time, please try uninstalling the game completely, re-install it and see if that helps. Maybe something went wrong during installation. Also, please make sure you have the latest Nvidia drivers :)

None of that helped.
I'll tell you what DID help.
I saw that the error message mentioned "galaxy", so on a whim, I installed the supposedly "optional" Galaxy client, and the game suddenly worked.
Since you lot at GOG.com seem to not understand "optional", allow me to fetch a definition from the internet for you:
op·tion·al
ˈäpSH(ə)n(ə)l/
adjective
available to be chosen but not obligatory.

Yeah, something ain't optional, when the game requires it to run. Little things like this only serve to damage customer trust in your service. Don't tell us one thing, then do another. Be upfront with crap like this. I won't accept a "Well we didn't know!" excuse, it was in the error message. Therefore it was in the code. Someone at GOG.com put that there.
This sort of thing is the DRM equivalent of "Let me just put the tip in!"
