Well I'll be, I never expected to see this gem on here. Excellent work GOG, to say the least.

Um,why?
I guess "gem" is a matter of opinion. Triad is certainly one of the weirdest shooters to ever come down the pike, what with its goofy jump pads and Mario-esque coin collecting. I never played Dark Wars, though, which I assume is a sequel? I don't remember the original having that title appended.
Not that Triad is a bad game. You get to hop around and shoot things (I remember being impressed at the time by the breakable glass), and that's what it's all about.
rise of the triad was one of my all time favorite games back in the day, mostly because of the random level generator that came with it. it didnt always produce the best maps, but occasionally it would spit out a freaking fantastic one... i assume that will also be included with the GOG release?
as far as i know, "dark wars" was the subtitle for the original game, so i dont THINK this is an expansion...

Yeah. The full version is called Dark War where the shareware is called The Hunt Begins iirc.
ahh now that you mention it i remember... yes, the shareware version was "the hunt begins"... i think im gonna have to pick this one up just to relive the memories :)
I adore this game and thank you GoG for bringing it out. This game is a gem and I loved this game more than Doom. ROTT was one of the games that was underrated because it came out at the same time as Doom. Everyone at the time was playing Doom, so thats why not alot of people played ROTT. I cant wait for this game to come out on GoG so I can bring back the memories of this beautifully done game. I so hope that GoG can bring out more of Apogee games like terminal velocity and wacky wheels.
Rise of the Triad is one of those games I was interested in but never managed to get a copy of. I'm eagerly awaiting its arrival.
I remember seeing a floppy for this as a little kid, and never knowing what it was until about a year ago.
Thanks for getting this on here, GOG...with this and Waxworks being added, I can only expect great things in the future.
I've only ever played the shareware version of ROTT, and I've always wanted to play the full version. Alas, I could never find a physical copy. Kudos to GOG for finally giving me the chance.
ROTT is one of the best FPS of the old classic era! It had jumping pads in both SP and MP way before Quake 3 did!! :D It's online play is one of the fastest, most explosive of all fps games.
Played for the first time and WOW. This ain't no methodical Wolfenstein 3D walk in the park.

Yeah, a bit loony ain't it?
So is this release of the game a DOS version which uses DOSBox , or is it a Windows port?

Like most GoG releases, this is the original DOS version with DOSBox.

Just one more way this game is better than Quake III. Which admittedly isn't a high bar to jump over, considering the colossal sized pile of horseflop that Quake III was. But regardless, ROTT was one of my earliest experiences into FPS and into PC gaming as a whole, and as such, it holds certain sentimental value to me. I've been playing it non-stop for the last 3 hours :)
