Hi there,

I just bought the release version on GoG and launched it for the first time. Game launch by start.sh
1) shows a black full screen
2) starts my Steam client and shows the Steam store page

then nothing more. When I exit the Steam client, the game exits from its black screen.
You are kidding me, right?

platform: Linux Mint (basically Ubuntu) with OSS Radeon graphics.

Hi! I have the same problem.

The start.sh file shows:
ExecCommandLine: "'/home/alex/.steam/ubuntu12_32/steam' 'steam://run/671440'"

I think it may be solved only by developer.

Anyway I already wrote to GOG support. Will see what they say. =)

The start.sh file shows:
ExecCommandLine: "'/home/alex/.steam/ubuntu12_32/steam' 'steam://run/671440'"
it also happens when you start the executable 'game/Rise of Industry.x86_64' directly. With a blatant problem like that I am honestly too lazy to even do an strace.
The game also complains about not being able to preload a "libsteam_api.so" plugin, among other things.
I already heard Steam offers some pretty convenient libraries for developers to lure them to their platform, and it seems something like this happened here. However, I do not buy on GoG to get a Steam trojan in my games, and I am very disappointed right now. Make the game Steam-exclusive then, so I can decide whether it's worth to accept Valve's dog-collar around my neck. What makes things even more sad is a post from the developer here on the forum claiming he was opposed to DRM - and then he goes and uses Steam libraries, which is as good as DRM through the back-door. Lock-in is lock-in, regardless of how you call it.

I think it may be solved only by developer.

Yep. I'll wait a few days and see how this plays out. If it stays "dongled" to Steam, then I'll demand my money back.
Right now the game does not even work anyway.
Sorry guys, escalated to GOG many times. Still waiting on them...
thank you :)

I presume they should be in weekend right now. We'll have to wait.
That's a sad story for launchday but hopefully for you, gog/linux players like us certainly aren't the major part of buyers.

Good luck anyway, your game is nice ;)
Here response from GOG support:

We notified developers and expect the issue to get fixed via an update in the near future.

In a meantime, please try downloading the attached .txt file and inserting it into the game's folder right next to the executable file.
Let me know in case that does not help.

I did not find a way to attach .txt file directly to this post. =(

Anyway I put it into ~/GOG Games/Rise of Industry/game right next to Rise of Industry.x86_64 and the game starts up normaly without issue.

In case you do not want to download it from Google Drive:
File name: steam_appid.txt
File contains only one line: 671440
I'm not sure this is the right way to patch the thing because gog's bin maybe shouldn't be dependent of steam app but it seems to work

(at least, as long as you have steam installed on your computer, but I've to admit I didn't try wihout it)
edit: i just saw the new installer is available. I'll try it right now. Sorry.

My game just crashed while playing, well, being in paused actually.

I started the game a few minutes before and I don't have any autosave, it may be related. file writting perms ?
I used the steam_appid.txt trick to permit game launch so maybe it's a problem with the game trying to sync save or something like that?

here's what i got in my terminal at the moment :

cryptpad.fr/code/#/2/code/edit/qtxnpoHpbVSoosn7DkyMOCvj

I'm using :
$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Debian
Description: Debian GNU/Linux 9.9 (stretch)
Release: 9.9
Codename: stretch

$ lspci -nn | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Barts XT [Radeon HD 6870] [1002:6738]

(i got a warning at launch related to low graphics shadders being under requirement, I don't know if it's related, I continued, It seemed to work anyway)

Version 1.0:0305b starts without issue. =)

start.sh output does not show any steam related prints. =)
Fixed!
