Wow.. how could a small community hold something off for ransom. Talk about caveman mentality. Well then, hopefully you are now enjoying watch Re-Volt died and slowly disappear from the face of the planet.

..and congratulations for stopping me (and possibly thousands other) from obtaining the game legally. But who we are right? We aren't part of the Re-Volt die hard community, so we haven't got the right to stick our nose into your matters correct?

What a shame, I'd really love to have a simple DRM-free copy with the plethora of GOG benefits.

1 year of talking doesn't sound like talking, but like a stand-still. :/

If you're so dismissive of the authors' copyrights, why bother with "obtaining the game legally"? If either right is not respected, selling it would be illegal. At least if you pirated the thing, you'd be able to obtain the fan-patch entirely legally, as its makers offer it free of charge or any other restrictions. Ironic, but true.

Face it, the sword of legality cuts both ways. Copyright law is probably way overdue for a re-writing, but if a new and fairer law were to be enacted, I suspect the makers of the fan-patch would still be better favoured than WeGo. After all, they've kept the game playable, continue to fix and improve it, and have sought no compensation for their work. WeGo, in contrast, copied a couple of bitmaps with their own logo over Acclaim's and Probe's.

Exactly, even if the game had not been taken down and would still be available here you can be certain that WGI either

1) wouldn't care to further support it (that wouldn't even be possible since they don't have the updated code from the fan patch)

2) would mess the game up in an attempt to fix it (and while they're at it, make it more like their "glorious" mobile version) or

3) would keep shamelessly using the fan patches, thusly making money off of the work the fans do for free while doing nothing and eventually causing the fans to stop their work (which is pretty much equal to "watching Re-Volt die and slowly disappear from the face of the planet")

And the game actually already has compatibility issues with Windows 8, causing it to run very slow compared to previous OSs, so its not like the non-existing support wouldn't have become an issue anytime soon.

Face it what? Last time I checked WeGo is a rightfully owner of the IP. They acquired it through legal way. I don't care if they port it to mobile, they can do whatever they want with the IP. I just want to get the PC version, legally. Personal beef aside, delisting it just because of a few angry people isn't the good solution for everybody.

Last time actual lawyers checked, they were trying to sell something they didn't have a right to. It was de-listed because of a few angry people with rights. I'm guessing they'd have no problem selling the contents of the original CD, but those don't work on their own, and WeGo are unwilling or unable to make a fix themselves.

Edit: Apparently, the original CD version can be easily fixed and runs just fine. So, whatever is stopping WeGo from releasing the game, it's not technical, and certainly not the Re-Volt modders.

My point wasn't that I don't want them to port it to mobile (which they already did, I think it was discussed here already) but that even if they still would be selling the game here, they wouldn't support it, as evidenced by their complete lack of communication ever since the game was taken off from GoG.

As for the reason, I have not a single clue. As you said, they have the rights, the original code and apparently plenty of people on GoG willing to pay for it.
And like Spinorial said, its not like the original version would require a lot of effort to fix (I know for a fact that only one or two code lines need to be modified to get it working again, you don't even need extensive programming knowledge to figure it out).

But for whatever reason they chose to pack the game with the fan patch instead without giving them any credit, I mean how did they expect the community to react?
Plus even after it got taken down, they didn't make any effort whatsoever to bring it back up, even with them owning the rights to the game and therefore probably even having every right to use the fan patch for their own good.

Really all they would need to do is to get active and either get to an agreement with the creators of the fan patch or release their own patch, both options require minimum effort on their part.
Yet WeGoInteractive remains completely silent, I mean even from a business point of view they're acting completely irrational so at this point its really only their fault that the game is not back up again.

My other point that you ignored as well was, if the game was still sold on GoG without the approval of the original creators of the patch (be it legal or not), sooner or later the fans would have stopped working on it due to the frustration of other people making money off of the work they did for free in their free time.
And since WGI is apparently unable to provide their own patch (why else would they have used the fan patch for GoG?), this would end in a complete stop of development/support for the game and I strongly doubt that this would be in anybodies interest.

Zapeth: -snip-
I wonder if they've used code from the fan patch in the mobile versions. And I wonder if that could get them struck off from the stores if it was found out.

Has anyone tried mailing them at the email address https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wego.revolt_global_live_premium&hl=en that is suspiciously followed by a slathering of Korean? I reported the app for IP infringement, but wasn't allowed to describe exactly what occurred.

1) No one has the code from the fan patch except their creators so its safe to assume that this is not the case.
There is a leak from the cancelled Xbox version floating around which originally made it possible for the fans to develop the patch and can be used to get further insight into the game but thats about it.

2) WGI has a different code base which includes the source from the Dreamcast version which is the base for the mobile versions.
As far as I know WGI entrusted a company called "BigBit" to port it to the iOS platform (someone from the original developer team works there) and I assume they used the code from that port for their "Re-Volt 2" games as well as the android version.
As for the question how they were able to put something like "Re-Volt 2" together from what BigBit ported for them while still being unable to provide their own patch for the PC version, that beats me.

Out of all the games de-listed from GOG, it's the only one I missed & wanted back here to play. Finished it 3 times and got all the mini car boxes. Great game, physics too simple but still.
=(

Disheartened that it's still gone
We all are, but you try reasoning with the cutthroats in India.
Sounds to me it's time to hoist the sails and set a course for pirate waters.
Tortuga ought have what we want.
and yet they will wonder that people will just pirate the damn thing since we have zero legal way to get it

thanks a lot
