Zeether: PLEASE sort this out ASAP. I want Re-Volt and I don't want to have to wait a long time to get it...

EDIT: Apparently the community is mad at WeGo about this because they used the modded version with no permission. So what, they don't want GOG to have the game at all? http://z3.invisionfree.com/Revolt_Live/index.php?showtopic=3241
You are infact dead wrong. Yes, we DO dislike WeGo because we don't appreciate them tarnishing Re-volt, a game that to most of us is sacred. While some of us do prefer it being a smaller community, we don't have any problems with new members coming & joining in, whether they are from GOG or not.

What we DO have a problem with is the hard work of two individuals, who spend their own time creating and sharing something with us, just being stolen by someone else and being sold without any kind of credit or permission whatsoever. Sure, they do own the IP to Re-Volt but they've had nothing to do with the creation of the 1.2 patch, which is what is included with the GOG version.

THAT is why we are mad at WeGo.

I agree that the people who wrote the mod should be credited,.. but I didn't know that using their code would be a legal problem. Unless they copyrighted or patented their specific code, anybody can use that code, isn't that the way it works? If you post your code online, anybody can use it, I always figured that is the way it works.

Good for GOG to try and clear things up though, sounds like they took the high road even though legally they probably didn't have to.
What happens if WeGo doesn't yield, then? Are we stuck with no game on GOG period, forcing everyone who wants it to either pirate or scrounge eBay for CDs listed at horrifically high prices? Do they even have a contact page where people can yell at them about this issue?

EDIT: They're a South Korean company? I doubt dealing with them will be easy at all if some random Korean company got the rights. They're probably one of those companies who doesn't care about the content as long as they make money off it. Guess we're never going to see the game back on GOG unless someone's willing to fly out to Seoul and yell at them about it.

Skarma: they've had nothing to do with the creation of the 1.2 patch, which is what is included with the GOG version.
Its not included, it is the game. If it weren't for the patch, the version that GOG had would be identical to the original version (except the ripped soundtracks) and thus it would be problematic to make the game work on nowdays OS's (its possible but requires some work and it has a lot limitations that were lifted with the patch.

So not giving any credits at all for their hard work, not asking for permission and even making money off of it is a big slap in the face of the fan community (and I'm not even mentioning that disgrace of a sequel that WeGo released on Android...oh wait, I just did).

invenio: If you post your code online, anybody can use it, I always figured that is the way it works.
They didn't post their code anywhere, they just released the compiled binaries to the community and listened to the feedback, thus constantly improving it over the months/years.

Then lets hope that they put everything straight when they realize that they are not making money from GOG anymore.

GOG had not to do all this. Modders know they work can be freely used by the owners of the games. Even, releasing a mod is often against the will of the game owner.
But commercialy mods are usually tolerated (not forbidenned) when they have not been officially welcomed by the owner.
So, I think it's not just for a mod that the game has been removed, if GOG has just to polytely give credits and inform the modder (no asking is compelled).

They probably make more money off the stupid phone ports to not give a frack about it. I read the Facebook page and tons of people have downloaded the "sequel" (which has a logo that looks like it was made in Photoshop in 5 minutes) and used the in-app purchase crap and went WOW THIS GAME IS AMAZING.

If this doesn't get solved soon I'm gonna riot. Considering how long it's been since then I bet they had no luck and the game's going to be gone forever just like Fallout, TOCA, and everything else. Considering how one of the Re-Volt blogs said "There has been a severe lack of communication between WeGoI and the community due to a lack of comprehension, they don’t answer to any questions and the like" I bet there will be zero chance of an agreement being reached if some stupid Korean company can't comprehend that they're using mods without permission despite the community yelling at them.

Hell, the first result for googling WeGoInteractive is a website that's all in Korean. They probably can't comprehend anything being told to them because they don't have enough people who can translate what is being said. Someone should tell Throwback they made a gigantic mistake selling the rights to a Korean company who clearly doesn't know jack.

EDIT: If this is how they respond to everything GOG has probably no chance of reasoning with them: http://i.imgur.com/ixU7U7j.png

Looks like the thread title should be changed to "Re-Volt removed from catalogue".
Due to the latest happenings (Re-Volt being taken off of GOG), I have been asked to look for ways of cooperation between WeGo and the community by Roy Park himself.

I told him to go towards Huki and Jigebren and solve the 1.2 problem with them. However, there won't be a solution since they are not, for obvious reasons, giving away their patch. Keep in mind that WeGo used the patch without rights nor permission.
So we are not discussing about WeGo using the 1.2 patch here
(this is not our issue; if Huki and Jig deny, that's it for them)

Scumbags. Absolute scumbags. If they can't even communicate in proper English then WHY are they trying to market a game with a stolen patch on mobile phones and outright STEALING!? I HOPE someone at GOG can tell them they made a mistake, maybe someone who can swear at them in Korean. Good god.

EDIT: I am spreading this link around everywhere I can including the official Facebook page for Re-Volt, and Tumblr where people always get on people for stolen content. Hopefully this can make waves.

Well except on whom I think the REAL scumbags are. =P

It doesn't matter what the modding community is acting like. WeGo stole an asset from them and used it with no permission. If they had sense in them (they don't, because nobody on their staff can speak proper English without sounding like Google Translate or Babelfish) they'd ask politely.
part of the problem is that the BETA patch is older than WeGo, it was made while the game was abandonedware. then all of a sudden WeGo owns the rights and steals the patch.

whats next? they steal tracks, cars and mods too? this is WeGo's problem. all they had to do was ask (in english).

i still own my original Re-Volt CD, not WeGo.
Pretty much everything mentionable has been said in the linked thread already but here's the major point that bugs me about WeGo:
They own the game, together with the source code. So they have everything they need to make a patch on their own.

I know for a fact that it would take literally less than 20 minutes (including debugging to find the bugs) to fix the most essential parts in the code and make the game run somewhat stable under nowadays OS's.
As for more fixes and features, they would all be optional since its still a complete game without them.
And even if they dont have the skills to fix the code then they could have just used the original version from 1999.

Yet they felt the need to take the community patch and sell it as theirs anyway, did they seriously expect the community to be glad about this?

Zapeth: did they seriously expect the community to be glad about this?
Surely not. But I think they didn't expect the community to react with "I'm mad because they don't speak english", "They should hang themselves", "They just think about making money" (What the hell were you guys thinking? You work for free? You invest money to... uhm... to waste it?) and "I hate them because they made a mobile game with in app purchases" either. What WeGo did with the patch was wrong. No need to discuss about this (whereupon these [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/general/release_revolt/post145]posts do offer an interesting perspective). But your "community" isn't mad about the patch... You guys simply HATE WeGo for everything they are and finally see your chance to fuck them over. And all of this because they made a mobile game... Holy shit, just imagine all Assassin's Creed fans, or all GTA fans would start to act like you guys...

I made a little joke about the Re-Volt community and their precious in the other thread. But to be honest, I think this is exactly what happened to you, after WeGollumYou got the rights for Re-Volt...
We are indeed mad about the patch and WeGo as well.
The developers of the patch prohibited to use the patch for the GOG release. All of their suggestions of cooperation have been ignored by WeGo.
The thing is that their CEO contacted me via Facebook to ask the community for cooperation to use the patch anyway. We have been asked for things that have to change in order to get a cooperation up and running. So he failed asking the devs and then came towards me with the words "community is highest priority". We have seen that:
it is not the only thing they did. Back in 2010 or 11, they tried to take down our forums because we used their trademark as a name and had the Re-Volt logo on the page.
What we collected there are the reasons why we don't like to cooperate with WeGo and what would have to change.
