While I guess the soundtrack fits the game, it gets rather annoying to listen to after a while. I want to turn off the CD Audio entirely, but can't find any options for it in the game.

Go into the Redneck.cfg file and change MusicToggle = 1 to MusicToggle = 0. There is probably a hotkey you could press in game to do the same thing but I don't know what it is.
I figured it out. You have to actually be in the game (not on the menu), then go into sound options and press the 8-track player. You can turn off the music from here.
Yours works better though because the game seems to reset this toggle every time, where as a config change would be permanent ..
I did notice the 8 track player in the ingame music options, it didn't cross my mind however to try changing it. I just noticed there wasn't any music on/off option so went into the config and found it there.
The first game resets the toggle every time, as you said. The sequel Redneck Rampage Rides Again actually saves it so you only have to do it once.

Open the menu go to "options", open "sounds" look for "8 track player" and press "enter" that it is all.
Howdy Guys:

This doesn't work for me on my installation. I have set the bit to 0 and also set the music volume to 0 in REDNECK.cfg and the music still starts every time.

In the old days you could just take out the CD - this sucks because GOG embedded the music with other files so you can't stop it. I find the soundtrack overwhelms DOSBox and game play is very choppy.

What's funny is that it doesn't rewrite the bits when I play - if I re-edit the cfg they are just as I left them but still the music plays on.

Those of you who marked this solved I assume you are turning off the 8 track. Can do, but the interface is really choppy and it takes some serious effort to get there.
This solution didn't SOLVE it for me but I did find one that DID! :)

Press ESC;
Go into options;
Sounds;
8 Track Player;
left click with your mouse and the switch on the bottom panel will toggle to off.

Hallelujah! :)

I've set "MusicToggle = 0" in "REDNECK.CFG" file in the game folder, the music still plays.

Options, Sounds, 8 Track Player. Press space or click the switch.
(You have to be in the game, not menu).

If you want my advice, check this thread for how to lower the music volume.

The music is actually pretty good. Fits the game nicely, one of the nicest soundtracks I came across in video games (not "nice" by itself, but as I said it suits the game). If you follow the instructions in that thread, you can lower the volume and keep the music in the game.

Each to their own i suppose, I'd rather just have the music off permanently.

Yep! That works.
