Red faction 1 setup ---> fast animations is recommended. What does it do?

Soccorro: Red faction 1 setup ---> fast animations is recommended. What does it do?
The user manual states:

Fast Animations (recommended) - Improves framerate of the animations.

So, from that I would guess that the animations are simplified in some way to give a faster framerate.

Allright thank you!
Not sure about the GOG version

but i remember last time i played the game, The part where you first use the submarine..it will not drop so you have to download a framerate program to slow it down for it to drop.

Use the Pure Faction patch and you won't need a frame rate limiter program as it will do it for you.

The r_maxfps console command in Pure Faction 3.0 can be used to set maxfps to 50. This also fixes the exploding submarine bug.
I bought Red Faction before it has been released on GOG and had to install Pure Faction and disable fast animation so lowering the submarine doesn't let it explode.
Is Pure faction something that came out recently?

don't think it was around when i found a copy of the game

update

i tried the patch out..glad that it doesn't make me use the game's CD's now.

Pure Faction has been around for a while. The latest version is v3.0, but I think that came out in 2011. The website's copyright is dated from 2007 to 2011. Don't think Pure Faction is being updated any more, though.
Well i just got up to the exploding submarine part

i still have to change the framerate myself with Purefaction....so much for it doing it itself.

Yes, that's what I said you would have to do.

"The r_maxfps console command in Pure Faction 3.0 can be used to set maxfps to 50."

I never said that that setting was default in Pure Faction, just that you can set it with Pure Faction. Without Pure Faction that console command doesn't exist so you have to resort to a framerate limiter program.
