It's funny, really. A few weeks ago, my brother and I were talking about Realms of the Haunting, and remarking how AWESOME it would be, were GOG to ever re-release it.

I woke up yesterday morning and to my surprise, there it was: My first experience with a game that so fantastically blended the FPS/Horror/Point-and-click genres (not to mention my first experience with a game that made use of FMV-sequences; not a very bad origin point ;P). I literally shrieked with joy and assailed my sleeping brother with a cacophony of unintelligible shouting, and then quickly went back to my computer to purchase and download this gem.

I must have been 8 or 9 years old when my step-dad bought this game and I probably shouldn't have been playing it at that age (it scared the living crap out of me at all turns), but watching others play it mesmerized me. So I picked it up, struggled through ALL of the insanely difficult puzzles on my own (remember now, even the easier puzzles were difficult for me, since I was only a small child) and eventually completed it.

I'm not sure what happened to my original copy of the game, but every so often I would try and re-visit this masterpiece, but it was NOWHERE to be found. I started to wonder if my step-dad, brother and I were the only ones to experience it, because nobody else seemed to even know what I was /talking/ about, let alone where I could get my hands on a copy.

So it isn't difficult to see why I'm so excited about this re-release. I've been playing it like a madman since I bought it and now I'm almost finished it again. The nostalgia is GREAT. I'm pleased it made the list, and I'm pleased so many others treasure this gem as much as I do.

Thank you gog for introducing me to this gem! I had never heard of this game before, but I'm a sucker for FMV games, especially when horror is involved. This game feels sort of like a very early precursor to Penumbra or Amnesia: The Dark Descent. I've only played for about an hour, but I'm already loving the atmosphere and the storyline. I don't know why I had never heard of this before. It's a great game.

I remember playing Realms of the Haunting's demo over and over many years ago, the beginning of the game up until Adam sits on the "throne" and receives his mark... I was totally fascinated by the game, the atmosphere, the dialogues and the FMV scenes. Unfortunately back then I never managed to find a retail copy of the game so the demo was all I could play. Years later I tried to get the game through abandonware sites but it was still so hard to come by, and even when I finally managed getting it to work on a modern os was a huge pain. When Gog came out, I kept hoping one day it would bring back this gem from the past and slowly but surely... there it is! So thank you gog, both for giving us Realms of the Haunting and for the amazing sales currently available for Xmas :D
