Hi all,
I just installed this game, but I'm not hearing any sound. My sound is on, that's not the problem. Any idea's what might cause/solve this?

I'm running the game on a Windows 7 system with Creative X-fi Soundblaster.
Thanks.

Have you tried running the game as an administrator? Also have you tried disabling your creative x-fi soundblaster and seeing if it will run off the onboard sound?
How would turning off my soundcard work? I'm not getting any sound at all if I do that...
I am the only user on my computer so I'm automatically administrator.
Well disabling the soundcard will only help if you have onboard sound that could take over. Do you know if your motherboard comes with an onboard sound chip? Edit: Just to clarify I was looking to see if it was a problem with the creative soundcard or something else entirely. If you have onboard sound and it works then its the card, if not then its probably something else.

I know nothing of an onboard sound chip. I don't think that's the problem.
My sound works great for everything except Raptor :(
Well I'm unsure whats wrong with it and unfortunatly it seems dotemu the guys that packaged the game have done something so you can't do config edits with notepad. I'd contact gog support if you haven't done so already maybe they can figure it out?

If not hopefully someone else will come along with the answer.
I just found the solution to my problem.
This game appearently only works on 2/2.1 sound systems. I had 5.1, which resulted in 0.0 ;)
So for all who have this problem (although I seem to be the only one?) make sure your sound card is set to only 2 speakers.

This is only an issue with Creative cards. My onboard is set to 5.1 and works just fine.

Just another instance of Creative's horrible driver programming, which is why I stopped using their sound cards after they completely abandoned all their audigy customers.
I unfortunately just bought a very expensive Creative soundcard + 7.1 hardware shortly before windows vista came out. Creative did not release drivers and my sound did not work on vista... I went back to windows XP mainly because Creative is slacking. I still have the soundcard, but Logitech hardware (after my Creative broke down after 4 years and could not be fixed).
Or you could use Alchemy to get the 5.1 working. It works in all old games for Vista/7 even DosBox. I copy the dsound.ini and dsound.dll manually into the same directory as the other dll's and/or exe instead of going through the Alchemy program proper. Dosbox games without it only play in the center channel. Now Wing Commander plays in the left and right channels with some sound in the rear channels as well. Wing Commander 4 in DosBox has total 5.1 support. Anything that came out 2005 and earlier should benefit. Run Alchemy the first time to get it to generate the 2 files and move them manually after. It saves time as they are the same files for every game. If running the program creates a dsound log file then it is working. You must have a Creative card obviously.
