Happened to me also. The theme park mission is unwinnable because both hostages and terrorists are invisible. I can see them on radar but not ingame.

Switched on force software in options, now the game crashes on start. Black screen into crash.

It happens to me as well.

That's the last time I'm buying anything off of GOG. First in Silver, now in Rainbow Six. GOG seems to release games without even testing them or realizing they are broken, and they don't do anything about it.

You won't see me here again.

Yeah... this breaks the game completely and there doesn't seem to be any straight forward way to fix it expect maybe a complete registry sweep or system re-install... both of which I'm not going to do. This needs a fix and I'll keep nagging until it's fixed, out of principle. $10 dollars have been pretty much scammed out of my pocket when I bought this game. This service is good but it needs to take care of these sorts of issues not pretend they don't exist.

Same issue here. I love this game and it brings me back to the old days, but I can't play the same 4 and a half missions over again... :/
If you install the game from original cd and then copy everything else but not the data folder from gog installation to your cd installation the game works and there is no problems with the missions.

Copying data folder from cd installation to gog installation does not work for some odd reason. It should in theory do exactly the same thing but does not work.

It is also nice to have the music with the original cd while gaming.
Does those the new installer fix the issue?
I noticed that people are having issues with invisible hostages. I was having the same issue with the female hostage on the first mission (I haven't played the game much yet), but I managed to get the Data folder from the disc version of Rainbow Six and copy it over to my GOG version. From what I saw, it fixed the issue...at least on the first mission. I will get around to playing the rest of the game at a later date, but I figured I at least share it with you guys, so everyone can have this issue fixed. I don't care if this is breaking the forum rules, but I rather see something done about this issue than seeing GOG do nothing about it.

Unfortunately, GOG won't let me post a link on the forums, though I guess it's because I don't have enough posts. I'm not really active here, but if you want my Data folder, just PM me and I'll send it to you. The files are from an unpatched version of the game, but as I said above, this has (so far) fixed my issue. I don't know which exact files are missing/corrupted in the GOG version, but still.

Playing under a 640*480 res has fixed the problem, but here's what Gog's support told me about the original disc files:

"I had a conversation with our Product Team about the different files and they said that it is not the cause of the issue, that it is a script issue and they are not able to fix it. "

Have you contacted them?

Same problem here. Had the game nearly a year and have only just got around to playing it. I wish I'd done so sooner :(
Really unacceptable. GOG should either fix this, or withdraw it from sale and refund anyone who has already bought it and has this problem.
I also have the same situation. of course I could play the game at recruit difficulty and it works just fine. all the extra objectives in the veteran are non existent. I have to kill all the hostages to win if I play this on a higher difficulty. Changing the resolution in the options menu hasn't done anything for me. sigh* if only it were that easy. I guess I have to find my actual disk and see if copying some of the files would work. best of luck to the rest of you.

First off guys, theres nothing uncool about posting a supliment to help a game function properly -here or anywhere for that matter. So if you have the disk, zip up the data file and upload it to mega or whereever and post the link---GOG will praise you be sure of it. I myself played the poo out of Spear and hopped to go all the way back to play this classic, but after reading this im thinking just maybe.

So, job 1-post data file, lets get to work Rainbow...were the elite, lets act like it...
this is the salution for the 1st mission for missing assistant found it on the 1st page of this thread at the bottom:
I had an invisible hostage (and sometimes an invisible terrorist) on the first mission, and Yshinozuka's method in post #15 didn't work for me.

What I did to pass the mission was edit the "victory conditions" text file. If you look in
C:\Program Files\GOGcom\Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six\data\mission, there is a file called "VicCondM1Hard.txt"

Open it and look for these lines:

// Condition 0: Rescue the ambassador
SPECIFIC_HUMAN_CONDITION
DESCRIPTION VC_M01_FREE_AMBASSADOR
GOAL_TYPE PRIMARY_GOAL
ACTOR Ambassador
HAS_REACHED_EXTRACTION_ZONE 1
RESULT PARTIAL_SUCCESS

Change "RESULT PARTIAL_SUCCESS" to "RESULT SUCCESS". Now the mission will end as soon as you rescue the ambassador.

I know this is an annoying workaround instead of an actual fix, but it allowed me to move on the next mission (which is working fine for me) while remaining on Elite difficulty. Besides, I had killed all the non-invisible terrorists already.

For the 5th mission if you do this but instead of VicCondM1Hard.txt look for VicCondM5 click on the one for your dificaulty and look for
// Condition 0: Rescue the hostages
HUMAN_CLASS_CONDITION HOSTAGES
DESCRIPTION VC_GEN_RESCUE_ALL_HOSTAGES
GOAL_TYPE PRIMARY_GOAL
HAS_REACHED_EXTRACTION_ZONE 1
NUMBER ALL
RESULT SUCCESS
change number to the number of hostages from ALL to the number that shows up when you play for example mine is 4 again just a work around but i get to continue playing the campain. btw this will work for any mission that the terrorist or hostages dont show up on. cause if GOG wont give me a working game i'll do whatever to make work.
So enjoy the game ^_^ V

Yshinozuka: Well, before I was unable to see one hostage on the first mission and no hostages on the second mission, but now I am able to see them after uninstalling and messing around with the compatibility settings. I've restarted each mission about twenty times, so it seems to be permanent. I'm running on Windows 7.

-Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3)

-Disable visual themes is checked
-Disable desktop composition is checked
-Disable display scaling on high DPI settings is checked

-Run this program as an administrator is checked
Thank you! This post should be pinned to all of these topics about invisible hostages.

I had invisible terrorists and the staff member. I was holding off on changing the win conditions or messing with the assets. I disabled this stuff with the Windows 98 compatibility, but it didn't work. Putting it to Win XP with these settings has allowed me to complete the first mission as it was intended. I also decided to run in with 256 colors and it looks more like it should, too.
