Hi, this is what I found so far as making ROM2 more playable (took me quite some digging so I thought I'd share).

The map scrolling too fast when using the mouse is not fixed by default in GOG's installation.
The only way I found to fix it is to use this modified executable.
You just put rom2.exe in the root GOG's installation folder and use it instead of allods2.exe.

Beyond that I also use ddrwapper for better performance (just extract it into the game's root directory).

It is also recommended to run the game in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode and with Admin rights.

To make the game run at 1024x768 (maximum default resolution) add -1024 to the shortcut in the Target area.
(the only main thing I haven't been able to do is increasing the game's resolution beyond the default's max of 1024x768.)

I hope this helps!

Nice tips .... i would be happy if i could run it at 1024x768 , 75% of my old steam/gog games do not run well, only the newer and many recent games run a charm, but i prefer good old games.

i cant run it cause the main problem already existed on XP 32 bits : High cpu usage on my old quadcore 2,66 ghz
on win 7 64 bits i had exaxt same problems ( win 7 was also installed on my quadcore)

My new setup i9700k with 32 gb ram also has same problem extreme high cpu usage, just like fallout 2, the old games ran best on my oldest pc : a p3 , as for the compat. . modes: none worked for me.Its not te GPU , its a cpu thing with old games.

Anyway, i was able to get good old Fallout 1 + 2 to run on my 9700K on win 10 1090 ... BUT after the "huge"" update to 2H it doesnt work, seems the more win 10 ""updates "" the less games will run. ( i dont have many new games , maybe the latest games will run flawless , but as i dont have any/many , i can only run most of my casual games ( steam)

That is unfortunate, perhaps one of the solutions described here might help you:

Thanks for the quick reply .... i checked the link read some of the posts , it does look familiar to me what they wrote in the forum.
The problem is 90% of my favorite games are the ones having the cpu problem : Fallout 1-2 and tactics, rage of mages 1 + 2, and more games like that, the games i seldom or never play work a charm.

Anyway thanks again for your reply.
Sorry for necro ;/ link is broken i really wanna play this game
Hi, this link is broken, can u fix it?

Hi, you can use "Patch for allods2.exe", [EXE] Link from Vladimir Chebotarev: http://archive.allods2.eu/homeunix/article_a2_scroll.php.htm
I was able to patch GoG version of the game for the scroll fix (though I had to negotiate with my antivirus on that) - download, rename to .exe, target your GOGs allods2.exe

Also there are instructions on how to create this patch yourself
Tested it but cant install the patch, how did you do it?

Thanks
It's been a long time, but here are the files I mentioned in the original post: https://mega.nz/folder/rA5x1TgI#IwWwADEaQhD0OlsSAbwsXg

Ironically, the very fixes I shared no longer work on my current Windows 10 - having that nasty screen flicker.

However, I'm experimenting with DxWnd and it seems very promising.

UPDATE: Install DxWnd and then run the attached rom2.exe in fullscreen Directx9 mode. My own personal .dwn configuration file is also in this folder.

PS: you have to turn any and all compatibility settings in the executable's property first. You also have to run DxWnd as an administrator.

It seems to run flawless this way!

For anyone still interested in getting the patched rom2.exe initially provided by AllurinGirl, the site can still be reached through the Wayback Machine (I don't have the ability to post links).

Following their instructions resolved the scrolling issue for me, but I'm using WINE so I can't speak for everyone.
I haven't seen anyone complain, though.

any way to get this rom2.exe again? When I click on it it says the folder is no longer available
Inspired by the patch for too fast scrolling from this page (http://archive.allods2.eu/homeunix/article_a2_scroll.php.htm) I created a patch for the allods2.exe from the GOG release of Rage of Mages 2 and uploaded it here:

A bit late on my reply, but thank you for the fix, it worked like a charm for the scroll fix! :)
.
Update:
----------
I forgot to mention that my scroll speed issue that was fixed using the file was from a Windows 7 installation. Just adding it in case others wonder about Win7, since the topic was about Win10.
