After I do the test with the bells, I walk out of the test room and the wizards tell me that I need to find and master more spells before coming back and continuing. Then they stop talking but the waiting/dragon cursor remains and I can't do any actions (other than examining things with a right-click), not even type into the parser. The menu still works and I can save and load the game, but while that fixes the cursor back to a sword, actions still don't work.

While I've never heard of this glitch before, I'm not sure you're going to find a solution to it. :/ If you can't type in the parser and moving doesn't work (which it never does in WIT) loading and coming back with all of the spells is your only solution.

Yes, coming back with all the spells turned out to be the answer. Too bad either I need to level Force Bolt, or I have no clue how to get past one of the "questions". I'll try again after levelling Force Bolt (and INT/Magic so that I don't run out of mana, since I'm not sure 104 is enough).

By the way, since the Wizards let me take the test without Reflect, I guess it's not needed at this point? I tried to buy it from Aziza, but that didn't work, so I guess I need either a plot trigger, to ask in a different way, or get it from somewhere else. Please let me know only if it's the "ask in a different way", since unless the game gives some hints later on on how to ask, that would stump me.

Reflect? You mean Reversal? You get that when you become a wizard, since you start the game as a magic user.

Ah, ok. Aziza was talking about her water magic being able to reflect things, so I assumed she's the one you're supposed to get it from.

You're missing a step somewhere in the puzzle. In the WIT test, there isn't any puzzle that requires particular skill level; just enough Intelligence and Magic to cast all of the spells to win the puzzles.

Hmm, I'll have to try it again. My thoughts were "Open door, Calm fire, Fetch door closed, Forcebolt knock it over the hole to use as a bridge". The last part did not work. I didn't have too much MP left over after that, but it would've been enough for at least a couple more spells.

It worked, thanks! Physics in a classic Sierra adventure game, now I've seen everything :)

The funny thing about all of this is, I have never once encountered this glitch (with the freezing after the pretest) because I never entered WIT without the rest of the spells O_o

But it turns out that, yeah, this is a pretty classic glitch. The issue is, as one website put it, "the game is waiting for an answer to a question that hasn't been asked, and cannot be answered."

Considering that apparently working for Sierra was a nightmare at the time, I'm surprised there aren't more things like this in the game.
