First, want to recognize cboath11 from Steam forums for 1/2 of the solution on this issue. This was the 0x0000022 error for which the following solution worked:

From what I have read this will work for Windows 8, 8.1 and 10.

Open Control Panel

Click on Programs and Features.

Upper Left click "Turn Windows Features On or Off".

When the list populates find Legacy Components, you might have to scroll down.

Click the tiny PLUS to the left of Legacy Components.

There is Direct Play item in there and make sure it is CHECKED. Click OK.

Windows will have to configure itself and follow the directions. I dont have the directions, like rebooting or such, because Direct Play was already checked in my clean install of Win 10 and it was checked by defualt.

After that, I got the Memory Exception 0 error, which I fixed by doing the following:

Run Program in Compatibility mode for Win 8
Reduced Color mode: 16 bit

I found i got this error when trying to launch from the GOG client. When I went to the directory and launched directly there was no issue.
Hi lizzylu79 :)
In case you are still listening to this thread:

The solution to your problem has been found here:
https://www.gog.com/forum/quest_for_glory_series/quest_for_glory_5_startup_crash

Before attempting the fix since there is a little risk, I suggest you first use the tool to confirm whether or not it is really related to the GPU/Screen.
There is no need to take a risk if the problem is unrelated :)
Let me know if you need any more assistance.

Cheers :)
