One of the criticisms that Quake 2 has had compared to previous id games is that it slowed the pace down, something I agree with. Fortunately that's easy to fix. Open the console and type timescale 1.2 (or higher!) to speed things up a bit. You might have to put it in your autoexec.cfg to get it to stick. Play this way a bit and you might find that the game is a lot more fun, and going back to normal speed seems sluggish.
