This game is even darker than Doom 3 sometimes, and with the same problem of not having a flashlight and gun at the same time. It's also not scary at all so it doesn't seem to serve any purpose and gets in the way of the gameplay.

Furthermore, the darkness sabotages any potential spellcaster builds. You can't really be expected to switch back and forth between offensive spells and the flashlight spell.

I just put the game at medium graphics, it's not dark anymore

Huh, that does seem to work. I'm wondering if high graphics settings were tested. Here's E4M8 on high:

I found that increasing sharpness also helps with the darkness for some reason.

This looks like something is not working as intended for you. Parts of the HUD (level up bar) are not visible in that pic too.

That's because it exited fullscreen when I took the picture (since the game doesn't have any real fullscreen feature, I have to keep pressing alt+enter every level or load.) It's cut off at the bottom.

There is a "fullscreen" button in graphics options

Edit: I agree though, game is frustratingly dark at times on High settings. I wish I knew about the "Medium quality" fix before finishing Antarctica, that was awful.

I also have this issue. In the game, I'm at episode 4 right now and almost all levels are dark.

Looking forward to the next patch
Sounds like the game is about to get even easier!

No. I've rebalanced some stuff - should be a bit harder ;)

Huh... That worked for me too.
I'm glad that this topic was created - I also feel that game is in many places way too dark (but "dark" in terms of making your eyes tired, not creating atmosphere). Even more glad that developer is working on it. At this moment (aside from unfortunate choosing knife when you're running out of ammo from currently used weapon) it's probably the most irritating issue, in terms of "pure gameplay" fun.
