Hey guys,

original Post got edited by user request to correct my mistake i made here.
The right Game was Phoenix Point and i posted in the right subforum now.
You can find the topic there, as well as the issue and linked evidence.

I hereby appologize to the developer of Prodeus as well, for me being to hasty
and making said mistake. Not much of an excuse here except for the whole
disaster happen quite some time ago. So i just was mistlead by the somewhat
close naming.

GHOSTMD: Hey guys,

i was interested in this game when i first heard of it. That suddenly changed
after the developer decided to go EPIC GAME Store and make a 1 year
exclusive deal for it.

Why do i remember you of this, you may ask? Simple the game itself was already
fully funded and prepaid by kickstarter backers and the Dev did choose the deal
anyway, screwing over the backers that already prepaid him for the game and
the normal release.

Ofc you re free to do what you want, with your money, but i for myself choose
NOT to buy and support such behavior towards customers. Would be different if the
game wasn t FULLY FUNDED, but it was.

I might get it... one day in 10 years or so for 1 € or so. But right now, i just don t want to
support the developer for said reasons. A shame since i really like the game based
on the impression i had.
I must be missing something:

I looked through the past news updates on kickstarter
I looked through most of the past comments on kickstarter
I searched the Epic Games Store
I even searched Google using the quoted terms "Prodeus" "Epic"

I know my "Google-fu" is not that strong, but I cannot find anything about this game in relation to EGS at all, much less an exclusive deal being made.

Can you elaborate?

EDIT: I did find one Kickstarter comment from over a year ago specifically asking about EGS and the developer replied "We will not be doing an Epic Store Exclusive ONLY deal. (to be clear, they haven't reached out to us, we haven't reached out to them)". https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/prodeus/prodeus/comments?comment=Q29tbWVudC0yMzYxMzI0MA%3D%3D

if i recall right, the developer made a deal with EPIC for being Prodeus an
exclusive title. Despite the fact that a Steamrelease was given for the kickstarters.

there it is:
https://www.pcgamer.com/xcom-like-phoenix-point-will-be-an-epic-store-exclusive-for-one-year/

i know PCGamer, but you can search the breadcrumps from there on, i think.
Ofc hard to find 1 year later though, might even search the Directors tweets about
defending his decision.

As i said though, everybody is free to do with their money, what they want GoG is still
supported if you buy the game here, however this thread is just a reminder of WHAT happend
since ppl forget far to easy these days.

I... Truly don't understand what this means :o

Are you sure you're in the right section here? The link you posted is quite clearly talking about a different game, Phoenix Point. What does that have to do with Prodeus? Are they linked in some way...?

I don't mean to be rude, but your post just has me utterly baffled :x

Yep, the Op is wrong here as they are different games by different people. They must have confused them, maybe because they both begin with the letter P (as they aren't even the same genre of game).

Phoenix Point is by Julian Gollop of Snapshot Games (who developed and published it).

Prodeus is by developed by Mike Voeller and Jason Mojica of Bounding Box Software Inc. and published by Humble Games.

Prodeus has never been an Epic Games Store exclusive, and in April this year the publisher was set as Humble Games so it would always launch on the Humble Store, and indeed it did launch on the Humble Store (where you get a Steam key), in addition to Steam and GOG. Further, browsing the EGS website, Prodeus isn't even listed there.

If they truly made a deal with Epic, it would be exclusive to EGS. They made a publishing deal with Humble.

don t worry i am not that fragile, i can admit mistakes when i make them ;)

@OrangePython @Korell @Pinefruit
Damned.... you guys are right, my bad then and nevermind what i said.
No wonder it was that hard to find infos about that..... uhhhhh (definitly need more coffee next time)
Misstook Prodeus for Phoenix Point here.... guess i am blind ....
ok as i said NVM what i said

Sorry for the inconveniece, didn t meant to stirr up anger in the first place, but i already said that
as well. Well i am completely at fault here, my bad. Sorry for spreading missinfos o7
I dont get the Epic Store dilema. Buy the game on the store that gives you the best deal. In my case that's GOG (when the game is released in this platform) and sometimes it's the Epic Store. When they are at the same price, then I choose Steam.
Well reasons WHY i am so cautious about this, are several ones.

First:
We already have to many launchers out there, with Galaxy being the ONLY one that ist rly
fully optional (major ones)

Second:
Those mandatory launchers give the puiblishers the power to deny you the access to your
property at any given time. GoG being the only Store that functions ONLY as that.
And yes such intrusion already happend, because licenses didn t get renewed.

Third:
EPIC pushed into a already saturated markets and what is their approach? Not the BEST for the
customer NO they push EPIC EXCLUSIVE deals with Metro Exodus and Phoenix Point as worst
examples. What does that to us? It pushed the console policies into the PC market.

Again sorry i made the mistake to confuse Prodeus with Phoenix Point, but that is alone on me.
Epic doing this thing, can t be good for us as pc players.

Points of concern with Epic Games Store are:

1) EGS is (was, possibly fixed this year) lacking in security and has already had a case of losing customer details. I don't know if their two-factor authentication resolved this, though.
2) There have been cases of users claiming to have erroneously lost games on EGS.
3) They have what I consider to be underhand business practices, such as with Metro Exodus and Phoenix Point. Metro Exodus was listed on Steam for pre-order and subsequently made Epic exclusive after making another deal with the developers resulting in it being pulled from Steam, whilst Phoenix Point backers were promised Steam keys only for it to then go Epic exclusive and ending up with an unwanted EGS copy instead.
4) They were investigated by Valve for using data from Steam without authorization.

On Steam you don't own anything, They're renting a room on thier space that allows you to play from their service.

You don't save money or anything on steam they're a waste.

As bad as EGS ties with certain factions are many titles are DRM free and do not require the EGS launcher at all, Unlike the video rental service steam which is disguised as a store just a big rental facility with some really nasty customer support and some evil community moderators.

Btw, perhaps a good idea to mark this thread as SOLVED?
Since my mistake (i clearly made here) got corrected?

You can only do that when the topic itself is marked as "question / problem" which is not the case here.

I think you can edit the original post to remove most of it or at least put in a note/disclaimer noting that you had it confused with another game.
