I am having a problem with completing missions. Perhaps I am misunderstanding something, but I usually get "mission failed" even if I have fulfilled the mission conditions. The only ones I have gotten "succeed" on are settler transport missions and a mission to discover 3 towns.

For instance, I had a mission to deliver 60 sugar and 60 dye to a certain town by a certain date - I bought the goods at different towns and delivered them (sold at the destination port) by the specified date and got "mission failed." Is there something I am supposed to be doing other than buying the goods, transporting them, and selling them at the destination port?

Currently, I have the "astronomer mission" where I am supposed to take him to 3 towns in order by a certain date- I am currently sitting in the harbor at the last town with 2 days to spare. I have let time run on for 2 days and gotten "mission failed" so I went back in time to an earlier save. Is there something else I need to do in order to complete the mission?

Thanks for any assistance.

For the Sugar and dye, you might need to sell to the person started your mission in the Market place usually in the center of town.

But yeah, I fail all missions with the astronomer, sailing into a storm (never find one) or finding a sunken ship.
What Wailwulf said. You don't sell the cargo at the port. Instead, go to the town market (I think it looks like a little fruit vendor cart) and talk to the person there. Page 30 in the manual talks about the Market Square.

You also get other missions there, which are usually of the "bring us this crap so we can throw you a party" type. These missions improve your standing in the town and will help you to eventually buy building rights in that city, which is important if you want to get big money rolling in.
Thanks both for the input.

I have managed to figure out most of the normal missions, still not the astronomer (but maybe I had to wait for fleet to actually "dock" before moving on to next town?).

Still can never complete the "speedy delivery" of the medicine, always get "mission failed" followed 1 second later by "[convoy] is docking." Funny how now that I've got galleons with speed 13 knots, I never see that one anymore... Arr...
I never manged to complete the medicine delivery missions with anything below 13 Kn. You need galleons or liners for that, even though the smartass governor only mentions removing anything under 12 Kn from your convoy. Well, as you saw for yourself, 12 Kn isn't fast enough. It might just barely be enough, if you have a captain with high nav skill, but I haven't tried that yet.

Ancient thread, but it's the only relevant one to come up for "port royale astronomer". It took me something like ten attempts, but I finally managed to complete this mission, and waiting for your convoy to fully dock at each town is indeed the answer. So don't just head to the next port as soon as you see the "1" next to the town on the map, but click into the town, and wait for the message in the lower left saying "convoy XXX is now docking".

Oh thanks, I always avoided those.
