Installing the game is fine. when I launch the game the intro plays fine, but then the game crashes and 2 error windows pop up.
1: Could Not Find Translation Files.
2: Runtime Error.
Also what is DEP and how do I activate it to add to it's lists.
THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP FOLKS!!!

DEP stands for Data Execution Prevention. Its settings are under System->Advanced->Performance->DEP (at least on XP).
Try to turn it off and see if the errors still occur. You may also try to reinstall the game with DEP off.

Hi there!

Today I stumpled upon same problem and finally found a solution. In stack tab I found, that there's ffdshow on the top of the stack when error occured, so I simply reinstalled ffdshow and it works!

Hope it will work for you (I know, it's been two years...) Cheers!
DEP needs to be disabled from PR2.exe for it to run, else you'll get the translation error.

Dear All,

I have the same problem on my Windows 7 machine. Reduced the resolution, removed special effects, disabled DEP, restarted a few times, re-installed the game after the DEP is disabled again. Seems that this game does not quite work.

Didn't understand mcey with his ffdshow. But I would be extremely grateful anyone has an idea how to make it work on W7. Tks.
For windows 7
1. Go to computer properties (right click)
2. Select Advanced > Performance > settings > data execution prevention
3. Make sure DEP is set to ''..except those I select''

MOST IMPORTANT PART that everyone left out.. took me like an hour to figure out. :/

4. Go to the bottom where it says ''add'' and find the location where you installed the game.
(Default FOR ME was C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Port Royale 2)

5. Open that folder and Find ''PR2.exe'' and select that to add to the exception list.
Make sure you click Apply on bottom right to save changes. Done and have fun!!.

PS I wouldn't recommend disabling DEP, can get a virus like that...
especially with people (or you) downloading crap on your pc.
This should be GOG's work to make sure everything works when they sell you game
Well i tried almost everything (DEP, compatibility, re-instal, Anti-Virus), but the game just won't load on one of my PCs.
I am getting: "Could not find translation files" I am running Windows 764-bit version.

The funny thing is i am running the game on 2 other PCs without any problem (1 win Vista, The other Win 7).

Any last hope for me? :)

OK, don't have 7....but on this computer do you have DEP enabled or disabled? It seems to be that you need to have it enabled, but excluded to be able to run it on 7.....I know, strange, but aren't we talking Windows here ;)

At last i can play the game. I tried to handle the DEP. but is just cubes on my big monitor :D
I'm running Windows 7 64 Bit and tried everything in this thread including DEP but it still crashes on launch. Before it flickering black once and then crashes. When I renamed the video folder to videos 1 it started to show me the background screen and then crashed after that giving the translation error.

I can't find anything else online that might work to get this game working. I'm using run as adminstrator and have disable visual themes and desktop composition and displayed display scaling on high DPI settings check off also. I've also changed through all the different setting under configuration file with no luck.

Edit: Even tried reinstalling with no luck. It's odd videos crash at start if folder isn't renamed since all the videos work if you play them outside the game in the video folder.

Finally got Port Royal 2 to run passed the the cinematic docking, and the nasty message about can't find some file. Only problem is, I didn't get it to run on this machine. Here I have a quad core, with more RAM and a genuine Nvidea graphics card. i'm running win 7 and use this computer for most of my games.

the Computer that will run PR2, is slightly older, less RAM and only has a dual core chip. I do have rhe water problem but that comp has an AMD GPU in it. But at least it runs PR2. It also has Win 10 but Win 10 decided to run the game in Win XP. Not surprised. That might have been the best OS microsoft made since DOS,

Not sure this will help anyone, but if people having trouble can indicate that CPU they have, what GPU they use and what OS, whether it works or not, there should be a pattern to the problem. I don't have enough working computers to determine a solution on my own.

Besides, now it is working I don't care as much.
