Adapter(s) to use / enable: (Unavailable)
Full Screen Output: (Unavailable)

A Radeon HD 2600 Pro is a DirectX 10 card. dgVooodoo2 requires DirectX 11.

You'll probably have to run the game in software mode.

ok, thanks for your answer.
I followed the instructions in this thread to get the game working and it seems to work as intended but resolution seems to be locked at 800x600, can't it go higher? I haven't tried the resolution patcher yet.

Oh... this is surpising. I used the resolution patcher and now that game allows me to use up to 1600x900, at least keeping AR at 1.77. Has anyone else done this?

There are two ways to change resolution:

1: Use popres.exe, this will set the resolution to the chosen resolution, but it will reset whenever you go to the options menu.

2: Add /allres to the commandline, this will allow you to choose any resolution but will the game will not remember it between restarts.

On a related note, the latest dgVoodoo2 allows you to force a higher rendering resolution which has some nice image quality benefits, but is different from changing the resolution in the game itself.
Holy smokes, this actually works. Thank you!

And dammit, THIS is why names matter. I knew about dgVoodoo2 but I was convinced that it's just a glide wrapper and will not be of any use with DX games. Dude should really rename it.
Used all fixes in this topic. I can use hardware mode now but framerate is unplayable in both hardware and software. Doing the things suggested here didn't help. Ideas?
I just tried this and finally got the game running in D3D, but even after turning off V-sync and reducing the polling rate to 125, it is not running well. Mouse movement appears to slow the game down, right down to a complete halt. Ceasing the movement gets the game going again. Any ideas?

For the third time in two pages:

If you have performance problems, either:

1. Force vsync off and set your mouse to a low polling rate.
2. Add /frameratemouse as a parameter to d3dpoptb.exe.
If option 1 fails, go for option 2.
You know, I did read that, but I somehow forgot about it. I believe my brain may have been thinking that the two steps from the first option were nr. 1 and 2 on your list. Strange.

Anyway, it worked! Thanks!
This game no longer works with dgvoodoo. It simply won't run. Works fine without it.

That's just false and misinformation. The game still works with the latest version of dgVoodoo2, there's just something wrong with your setup.

If it used to work and doesn't work now you really just have to figured out what you changed. I know that isn't easy, but getting random people on internet forums to guess what you did isn't really likely to get you good results.

An alternative to figuring out what you did is start from scratch. Reinstall the game, if that fails reinstall your OS (only if you know what you're doing).

I have a relatively fresh install of Win10 x64. I've installed PTB from GOG Galaxy along with dgvoodoo2 (versions 2.52, 2.53, and 2.54 being sure to delete previous versions of dgvoodoo2 before copying the newer versions into the PTB directory). After following the directions exactly from the start of this thread, every time I attempt to run D3DPopTB.exe from the PTB directory, I get the same error window message: "D3Ddpop3w has stopped working".

I have Populous 3 running on my old windows 7 x64 machine - works great. Windows 10 x64 doesn't seem to like this program.

Populous 3 + dgVoodoo2 works fine in Windows 10 x64.

Something else is the problem with your setup.
Great guide, thank you very much for it!

The only very minor issue I have is that the campaign progress bar (at the bottom of the planet selection screen), which is supposed to fill up with icons of planets, remains empty (i.e. planet icons never appear in the slots) regardless of progress. It works properly in software mode, but apart from that, the D3D mode looks a lot better of course, so cheers!

(Win7 64-bit, HD 6870, for the record)
