Beamdog representative here.

Hello, GoG users. Probably some of you know me already - I'm the Community manager of the Beamdog forum and on Steam.

I see a lot of unanswered questions about PST:EE, mods, features, differencies, decisions on this forum (in this thread and in PST:EE-related subforum on GoG). You're all our customers and it's not fun when you can't find an answer which stops you from buying the game or enjoying it if you already own it.

Our support team will be happy to help. If you encounter any issues, please send an email to support@beamdog.com.

If you want to get answers to any of your questions about PST:EE, feel free to post them on the Beamdog forum.
Thank you for the invitation, however your "predecessor" very kindly banned or trolled a lot of us, so I am unsure what sort of reception many of us would get.

That said, congratulations on PST:EE, it is a good game and it brought back many good memories.

Sorry to hear about your (or other people's) experience with a "predecessor", whatever you mean.

I guarantee you that under my control moderators don't ban without a reason, and this reason may be only violating the site rules, eg. insulting other posters.

You can mention on the forum you're coming from GoG, we will see that your user rights are well respected and protected.
Maybe you can explain if the fact that you don't get the key of the original Planescape Torment is gog fault or Beamgod fault.
If I already have BG 1-2 or IWD, and I purchause the EE I will get an additional key of the original game that I can give to a friend, if I do the same for Planescape Torment EE I will only get the EE (not the original game key, because the game is added to the user account and if you already have the original Planescape Torment you will get nothing).

I really want to know if this is gog or beamdog fault.

Beamdog does not make decisions regarding products removed from GOG.
it was not my question.

LiefLayer: I really want to know if this is gog or beamdog fault.
It's nobody's fault. And that is easy to understand. Generally, when the first edition of a game ships it is completely unknown whether any "EE" version of said game will ever exist. Beamdog publicly stated many times that doing a Planescape EE wasn't going to happen for a variety of sound reasons. However, with time, all things change, and evidently Beamdog found a way to get to the EE version of Planescape, after all--and I think that's fine, myself...;)

At any rate, GOG is the distributor of these games--not the developer. GOG's stated policy for a long, long time has been that if you already own a game then should you repurchase it as a part of another *package of games* that you simply don't get "another copy" of the game you already own. That's just the way the cookie crumbles. Often GOG will deduct the sale price for the game you already own from the total price of the sale package--extremely fair. I think their current policy is valid and fair considering that I finally broke down and bought the GOG copy of the original Planescape for <$5 during one of GOG's regular fire sales.

The fact is this in relation to this game: if you already own a copy of the original game then you are buying the EE version and you don't *need* another original copy of the game, do you? So the price you pay is for the EE version alone. However, if you are someone who has not already purchased the original Planescape by this time, then chances are excellent you will never purchase it moving forward--but you *might* purchase the EE version--in which case GOG throws in the original game for free as a small incentive. It's just the way GOG has chosen to market the games and I really cannot see anything wrong with it.

Tell your "friend" to wait for another GOG fire sale for the EE version and then he'll get both. IMO, your friend needs to buy his own software, don't you think? GOG certainly doesn't make that a difficult proposition...

you are wrong. I paid for the original game. if I don't get another copy I should get a permanent discount.
And I always give my other copies to friends.
Also on the store page they say that you receive the EE AND the original game, but if I already bought it this is not true, I only receive the EE.
If I buy a physical copy of a bundle I get everything there is in that bundle, not just a piece because I already own part of it.
who made this mistake made a scam (I think is gog) because who purchause the game before today could not know that this time it was different and cannot ask for a refund (I know because one of my friend did not get a refund).

Anyway if this is gog fault I will just buy this game on steam or beamdog site (so that I will be able to ask for a steam key and give one to my friends like usual), it is still drm-free after all so I don't care... if it is beamdog fault I will just keep my original game.

But you should not answer the question, this is not your business, I don't like ass kisser.
Also I don't care about the actual price, I care about the lost value of my original purchase.

Interesting interpretation of an answer to public postings and questions. If you want only a private answer, just contact GOG and Beamdog direct so you have no further business in public forums. Otherwise you should respect other opinions and stop giving harsh answers, because you think they don't fit.

Well aren't you an angry bear? Anonymity sure brings out the best in some people doesn't it? Well, in expectation that I'll be met with hostility by this heartwarming person, here goes nothing.

So the assumption is that by advertising the EE with the original game included you were being misled? Does the "original game included" portion of the advertisement then by definition mean that the format of said original game is the inclusion of a game key? If so then I believe you have a strong argument. If not, then I think you should re-evaluate your expectations.

You are not buying a "bundle" as you stated when comparing it to buying a physical copy. By purchasing the EE edition you buying a revision of the game with several improvements. The ability to turn those improvements on/off is what seems to constitute the inclusion of the original un-altered experience of the game. Whether you agree that these improvements merit $20 is a completely different topic. However, to presume that the $20 price tag includes a key to the original game and a key to the EE edition, is in my opinion, somewhat naive.

if I already have the original game I see no other solution.
for BG 1-2 and IWD EE there was a key for that reason.
I see no reason to change that.
Like I said I don't care about the price, I care about the lost value of my original purchase.

No. This is a topic of the "Beamdog representative". I asked a simple question to the "Beamdog representative".
I really don't know why you and throgh want to convince me that this is not a scam (from gog I think).
I don't know if you bought the original version and the EE, but if you do that for BG 1-2 and IWD you would get the EE and an additional copy of the original BG 1-2 and IWD.
I always wait after release to buy something so I was lucky... but if I had bought Planescape Torment EE pre-order I would be screw because how would I know that this time it was different?
they said nothing about "you don't get a key this time if you already own the game".

At this point for me there is no even reason to buy this game from gog... and waste my previous purchase.
If I buy Planescape Torment EE from the beamdog site, I can request a steam key (both are drm-free).
I really don't get why buy this game here where I lose the value of my previos purchase.

Anyway if you want to continue argue you can, but I don't see the point. What I want is an aswer from the "Beamdog representative", a public answer so that I can post this answer to my friends forum. I don't see the point in make a new account on beamdog forum since there is already a "Beamdog representative" here.

No there wasn't. I owned all the original versions before the enhanced editions were ever announced, and bought all the enhanced editions when they came out. They didn't give me a separate key for another copy of the original, but I did get a discount on the price.

there is. just look under more -> serial keys. I have them and I owned all the original versions before the EE so I'm sure.

There is, and that's the point:

They changed their policy from previous EEs (same developer\publisher, same marketing, same bundling) without clearly saying it to the customers. A simple reminder on checkout or a note on the store page telling "You will note receive a key if you already own the original game" would have solved the issue perfectly.

I'm not trying to convince you of anything. I'm simply shining a light on your warm personality.

If you already own the original game you aren't losing any value to your original purchase. It's like saying I purchased Super Mario 3 on the NES and the Super Mario All-Stars on the SNES made me lose value on my original purchase. I can also extend that analogy to say that why shouldn't I get a discount on that bundle since I already own a copy of the first.
The logic doesn't make sense. If the developer or GoG decide to give you a free key with your purchase that's a win for you. But if they don't, your original purchase has not been impacted whatsoever.

LiefLayer: I always wait after release to buy something so I was lucky... but if I had bought Planescape Torment EE pre-order I would be screw because how would I know that this time it was different?
they said nothing about "you don't get a key this time if you already own the game".
And you're a smart consumer for waiting. NEVER pre-order something unless you know for a fact that no matter how things play out you'll be certain that you'll be happy with your purchase. If there are ANY questions at any point, then don't pre-order. The developer or GoG still came through on their promise. I can play the original version as well as the EE edition. My purchase and expectations (and also of many other consumers) were completely met. How they deliver on that promise, their method for doing so, is completely up to them. The consumer (myself) still received what is being paid for.

My point was already made from the first post.
You received an answer from the representative. An easy solution is to simply send your friend a link to this thread. Your friend can see for him/herself what the representative has stated.

I do agree with you there though. More clarity would have satisfied a lot more people. A simple reminder at checkout or even on the store page would have avoided a few headaches.
