RadonGOG: Not directed at the OP, quote was only added for the viewers of the thread:
Here is some (new?) information regarding this topic: http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/beamdogs-planescape-torment-enhanced-edition.114375/page-85#post-5508872

In short: It doesn´t look like Beamdog is allowed to use the BlackIsleLogo. End of story, nothing sinister in there.

"As far as I'm aware" means he knows shit. And anyone with half a brain knows it's not the truth, why would Black Isle (which still belongs to Interplay) forbid Beamdog to use it if it was free advertisement? Doesn't make sense at all. Beamdog are scumbags who take credit for something they haven't done - end of story.

Also writing "(new?)" when anyone can see it's a post from Feb. 28...
In comparision to the opening post it is new.

And no, it would be very easy to imagine that this is true. Why don´t you simply contact Interplay and ask them? Maybe you´ll find out it´s true, maybe not. But if the later one is the case, this could also be the first step for a BlackIsle-Return!

Therefor: JUST DO IT!

Beamdog is not simply a group of "modders." It was founded by Bioware's co-founder and its lead programmer. That gives them some pretty significant credibility. I'd rather that they get the task of enhancing these old games for modern systems than some studio that has no connection to Bioware or Black Isle. Also, unlike most "modders," they've been given official license to modify and re-distribute the games. Black Isle doesn't own the games; Bioware, their publisher, who gave them the money to make the games, does. Even if the original employees of Black Isle, at Obsidian or wherever else they moved on to, wanted to enhance and re-release these games, they couldn't without Bioware's permission. Being closely connected to Bioware no doubt played a significant role in Beamdog getting the license. If anyone should be blamed, it's Bioware, not Beamdog.

BTW, all of the Black Isle staff and others who helped with the original games are listed in the game's credits, so it's not like they're not credited. The fact that there is no Black Isle logo is probably just a legal issue, as mentioned already. I imagine that Beamdog would've included if they could've.

Finally! Thanx jnisbet - I am SO tired of hearing Beamdog hate. I just bought it tonight, but I've seen the YouTubes, this game is gorgeous! We are just gamers - company and design and legal decisions are not our worry. I'd like to see people love the game, or hate the game and ask for a refund, but whatever, shut UP. All this yowling is why I didn't buy it a couple of years ago, couldn't decide if it was a bad job done, or just a few loud ones with some vendetta against Beamdog. Oooh, baaaad Beamdog for wanting to be paid $5 for his art. Because it has been on sale for $5 many times, and that is no where near enough money to generate so much noise. I like to be paid for my art too, so I guess I'm in the lifeboat with him, and the people trying to shoot holes in it.
I agree that this enhanced edition is actually, on the whole, quite good.

However, the reason Beamdog still deserve hate is because they negotiated to remove the old version from sale everywhere, thereby not allowing anyone to just buy the old version if they really wanted to.

Personally, I would suggest that they should buy the new one - however, this should be their choice, not something forced on them by Beamdog. If the new version is better (which IMO it generally is), then this pathetic tactic isn't needed.

On top of that, the corporate crap that they spout during any official communication makes me want to throw up violently.

If that is the only problem, then criticize them for that, not for being "modders" or for "bugs" that no longer exist in the games, or for being "parasites".

But the hate campaign began with the release of Siege of Dragonspear which is not an Enhanced Edition and therefore did not cause the removal of an earlier version. So I don't believe this is the real issue.

Well I'm only speaking for myself, and what I consider to be the issue, having not really followed their earlier efforts much. That said, from what I do know, Dragonspear inspired hate as well, and their general tone of communication (throughout their existence) has been the pinnacle of patronising corp-speak.
Beamdog got a ton of stick for the EE games when they did the 2.0 patch, which changed the whole U.I of the game and added those horrendous sprites. The EE versions were fine before that. Now they are dumbed down so hard it is almost as if the devs assume the target audience has Down's Syndrome. They aren't entirely wrong either.

It was after that that they had the Classic versions removed from the GoG stores. The classics were outselling the EE versions at the time. Might be why they had them removed. Their shit versions of the games or no game at all.

whats more, if you get into their "beta" programs, and give them critical advice, they will ban you, then you get no after sale support from them.. I grew up playing these games, have loved them for years, but peopel like Lariann make it so that you hate them after beig part of their "community" if that's what you wish to call it, but lets be honest, communities don't thrive doing such things.. think about it, if you wen't into your neighborhood and rounded everyone up to attack someone because they said somethign you didn't like, eventuall you would be left all alone, whats more they do this to people that SUPPORT them, they are indeed the ingrate of the industry, i would go so far as to say the niggardly of the niggardly of the industry actually. (using this word biblically, see 2 Corinthians 9:6, Isaiah 32:6, also in the apocrypha (part of the septuagint, the book Jesus taught from, Ecclesiasticus 14:3 & Ben Sira 31:24)

https://www.biblestudytools.com/wnt/2-corinthians/9-6.html

https://www.biblestudytools.com/kjva/ben-sira/31-24.html
https://www.biblestudytools.com/kjva/ben-sira/31-24.html

they drive their own customers away, willfully and gleefully, screw Larian and his cronies, they asked for this from the community by doing such, without consideration fo the hand that feeds them, i hope they end up homeless living in a cardboard box in a alley eating dogfood from a can to survive myself, have felt that way a long time.

simply stop buying from them, just that simple, way too many cases of it and if it happens to others in time it will happen to you too if you disbelieve that it happens and hang around them, don't beleive it.. try it, be critical and see how long it takes, not long.

No clue who Lariann is.

I don't think using the bible as "evidence against Beamdog" is the way to go, though.

it isn't a matter of using the bible as evidence against anyone, it is merely pointing out there is a proper usage of the word, basically it means rotten on the inside, darkness of heart and soul.

if you can't comprehend that I don't know what to tell you.

can't say it has to do with rascism, it is the proper usage of the word, not racist at all, and the word is indeed in the bible, is it not? you can see it with your own eyes.

I keep a 1611 KJV myself, which is the english translation of the septuagint (the book christ himself taught from, and also the book the 70 hebrew scholars were sent to Alexandria to record under the request of Ptolomy the second for the Library of Alexandria, called the LXX (70) version of the bible by the catholic church (which I am not part of)) along with a translation of the koine greek new testament. Truth is no version is nearly as impressive as the original hebrew really, which were scrolls and not books.

more background information on the book for you, in case you don't believe my words or lack understanding in what I have said.

I keep a copy of the Benton translation of the Septuagint myself for cross reference purposes.
