So, I have had Pillars going for a while now, started with a fighter and built up a party getting a fair way through. Then got quite annoyed with characters blocking each other, wizard spells taking out my party etc. so started again, but with a solo Thief, which I have done BG1/2 with a couple of times, and BG2 with a sorcerer.

This leads me to ask peoples thoughts on the characters, setups and such like for a solo voyage.
I took an Elf, 20 Dex, 18 Might, which works okay. As the game is not focused on obliterating everything in your path, i.e. most XP is from quests, this works. There are some times where confrontation is necessary, i.e resolve lord of a baron land quest, kill either.

However some things stand out to be missing in this. The starting characters for instance really don't have much difference between them, i.e. all have +2, and characters who you'd think are good at somethings, i.e. small for thief, aren't. Also, the lack of multi/dual classing is definitely a miss. So I wonder if its worth continuing with this run? Anyone else try a solo run, what kind of character did you build?
I have not looked into it myself, however someone did this game solo with a thief on the hardest mode.

The link to it is in the "Best Build" thread, so I would check that out.
Also, why are you blasting your team members with mage spells?

I have 2 mages in a full team. After selecting what I deemed "very important" for them at level ups, I chose the 'utility' ability "fast runner" for both of them so I could place them - during battle - at advantageous positions quickly to avoid including team members in an AoE spell.

Before that, I always sneak, so once I spot enemies I have time to sneak my mages to where I want them before battle begins. If detected before they are in place, they are at least close to where I want them (I like to flank with mages).

Just send your tank, alone, to the enemy(ies) first to get them to focus on him/her, then send in your backup frontliners (thieves are amazing at melee - so long as you try to keep the enemies focused on your tank).
