If I disable my (very restrictive) firewall, PoE starts up just fine.

If I don't? It crashes. This is with the latest updates and whatnot.

Isn't this a form of DRM?
No, it's not any kind of DRM. You can play PoE with no internet connection whatsoever. Your firewall is clearly interfering with proper execution of the game.

The problem is connected to Galaxy. There is a thread about it here ; https://www.gog.com/forum/general/crashes_in_games_with_galaxydll_or_galaxy64dll/page1

Ah, so it's GOG Galaxy. Yeah, I'm using that.

Alright, hope it gets fixed.
Hello,

Thank you for the info it is Galaxy related.
I don't have internet at my house (we just moved). Removing Galaxy didn't change anything, but renaming galaxy.dll in galaxy.dll.bak worked well!

Hope it could help someone.
