I downloaded all the files to install the Definitive Edition of Pillars of Eternity but my installation failed the integrity check and I got a message saying I need to redownload the setup file. I am in the process of redownloading the game but my question is do I need GOG Galaxy to install this game ? I have downloaded and installed several games from this site that included GOG Galaxy without actually installing GOG Galaxy and using it to install the games and the installations for the games seemed successful. This is the first game on this site that I have had trouble actually installing. I would prefer not to install and use GOG Galaxy if possible. Do I need to use GOG Galaxy as the installer for this game?

No, you don't need Galaxy. From what you've said it just looks like the setup file was corrupted so a redownload of that file should be enough. Also check that you're downloading the Classic installer and not the Galaxy one. This is found under 'More' in your games library.
