Just starting out and I had my rogue use some sort of attack that Dazed one guy... but it doesn't say what daze does (at least not in the tooltip). Does he have lower initiative? Does he not get to move? Does he not get to react (e.g. attack of opportunity). Next an ally moves and Hobbles another enemy. I assume that means he moves slower?, but i don't want to guess what these status ailments do.

I could probably look them up in some sort of game glossary, but it seems stupid you can't just hold a button while mousing over the effect and get more info on it. Even budget games like this have that ability (see Solasta).

I want to enjoy this game, but I'm the type of person who really wants to know HOW all of the different things affect combat. Dazing could be the most awesomest debuff to inflict on someone or it could be absolute shit... but i'd have no way to quickly know that.

Please tell me there's something like this that's in-game, but I just missed it.
I understand this post was a while ago so you probably answered this question yourself; but generally the answer is no.

When Pillars of Eternity was released initally, I found the system overwhelming due to the massive departure from D&D based games that I was used to. I gave up about half way through my first game due to the combination of poor performance and mechanic explanations.

Recently though I finished PoE I (2022 this year), and I enjoyed it (both gameplay, story and visuals), but I definitely needed the online wiki:
https://pillarsofeternity.fandom.com/wiki/Official_Pillars_of_Eternity_Wiki

Status effects like Daze are much better documented in the wiki (I would much prefer this information in the game, but it isn't going to happen):
https://pillarsofeternity.fandom.com/wiki/Status_effects

A good deal of important information unfortunately isn't included in the game tooltips and those that are curious are needed in order to figure out important mechanics like the attack round:
https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/86684-mechanics-the-big-attack-speed-conundrum/

A round has both an attack time and recovery time, and some buffs influence both speeds, while others only affect one or the other.

Area of Effect is another aspect that is a bit of a mess; in PoE 1, Intelligence affects the spell radius, but items that add % area of effect will only add additional area to a spell (which has much less of an effect than increasing intelligence), while in PoE 2 intelligence adds additional area to the area of effect and therefore doesn't add as much radius to spells as in PoE 1.

In PoE 2 the tool tips can be wrong as well (like -25% armor recovery speed skill for the fighter which isn't actually -25%). It's a shame as I think a solid integrated help system is much needed in games like this....though to be fair it isn't the only one; Wrath of The Righteous is an even more complicated system that requires online reading to make sense of it.
