"A warning to anyone buying this game it has save DRM in that your saves are held off your computer and kept in another server. Which means if you save your game, lose internet and try and play this game your saves will be missing as all of your saves are not kept on your computer. This is ludicrous and just a form of DRM on a platform that is meant to be anti-DRM, do not buy this game and if GoG Galaxy starts making all your save games like this game then avoid GoG until they stop this."

After reading the above review I decided to check and see if it was true. The save games are in %appdata% local/phantomdoctrine/saved/0/savegames

I have not experienced the save games disappearing so far. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Yes I had it twice yesterday.
At first I was confused and thought maybe this was some strange Ironman rule thing as I was on that mode. Another time I had to ALt-F4 out the game cos it crashed and on a restart my save (on Ironman) had vanished again.

Someone else posted up what was going on and revealed where my Saves were, I moved them and sure enough, my saves were back!

I don`t normally play while Online it`s usually Offline, so I think i`ll stay Offline from now on.

It's a common issue with Cloud Saves. Nothing to dop with the game. Steam has screwed me over with Cloud Saves as well. The syncing process will overwrite save data with the save data from the cloud. Why? I have no idea. More checks should be needed and definitely NOT delete save data not on the cloud that has not been synced.
I disable cloud saves on all my games now.

I actually disabled Cloud saves before even starting the game - and it somehow re-enabled itself. I disabled it again and it seems to stick now.

This is the first time I`ve ever used GOG galaxy, usually I stick with the backups. This kind of thing always makes me a little paranoid.

If you don't use GOG Galaxy at all, does it still do cloud saves?

No.
To be fair it cant really be called DRM, just like your email isnt protected/hindered by DRM.

It just uses the cloud to save the game so you can load a save while playing anywhere. If you only play from a single location you should turn it off. It is a choice. And it is required to be one or the other from time of first play.

Yes I had the issue. But not with the folder '0' that you put in your adress, folder 0 is recognized in offline mode for me at least. I had another directory, '49510141959087628' which was created I think by gog galaxy and that my game wouldn't recognize unless I was online which caused me to believe I was looking at a DRM feature. Moving the saves from the '49510141959087628' directory to a '0' directory resolved the issue. I wrote a post about it in the bug section and the devs have confirmed there was not supposed to be such a thing as online only saves.
Keeping save-games in AppData is perfectly valid, and lots of games do it. It has *nothing* to do with DRM.

If there are problems with saves disappearing the devs need to have a look at solving it.

However I would have wished they'd used a more "proper" directory on Windows, like Documents\My Games, as I have those folders backed up regularly, and it's the recommended place to put game data.
Hey, guys.

Sorry for this inconvenience. It was by no means intentional. We've already talked about this internally, and we'll be looking for a way to fix it.

Cheers!
I do my own cloud saves even for Steam... gives you total control over it. I use the ever awesome Resilio Sync... direct peer-to-peer, no Internet connection required... super fast and super reliable... haven't had a single issue with saves disappearing or anything whacky. With Resilio Sync, it even saves a version every time a new file is writtten plus if a file gets deleted, super simple to retrieve it.

And oh yah... I only use Galaxy, never use the offline installers

I had a similar problem, but I just renabled Cloud Synch and it worked, no great hassle for me to play through Galaxy anywany, Would be a massive pain for people with no internet and such,
